So I just finished the principal parts(water column + some extra air space columns) of a new water elevator that goes as deep as bedrock. As soon as this main parts were finished I decided to try it out, placed some water, placed a boat, got into the boat and when entering the water column.. the boat was just pushed away from the water column.
I guess this is not a glitch, but I may be wrong as the boat kind of launches away from the water column, still I hate the idea of a minecraft without this awesome elevators (they are cheaper in terms of materials than a railway elevator and they are also better looking and way cooler than using vertical stairs)
So people, please don´t let water elevators die in XBMC
Sorry, just noticed that a recent update requires them to have all source blocks, please just let this thread die
(or if a mod sees it please lock)
I have a water elevator... sure it doesn't work with boats but you can hold (a) and swim to the floors you want to get off on. It's quick and easy, just not with boats!
Could use minecart elevator, alot faster. As for boats i had an issue with them sinking into the bedrock and suffocating me, ended up with just swimming up.
I've built boat elevators in my world, and they work. If you put the source block of water on the RIGHT side of the block, you have to approach from the LEFT side of it in order for it to work. You have to get a running (boating?) start, and enter the waterfall as you're going fairly fast. As soon as you're in, immediately stop the boat, and it will work.
CharityDiary, can you clarify (or show a video) of what you mean by the Right/Left source block? I have multiple source blocks
The wood block is actually a ROW of wood blocks, and you're looking at it from the side. The waterfall is a row of waterfalls. The water is coming off of the RIGHT side of the wood, so when you drive your boat into the waterfall, you must come from the LEFT side of the wood. So I guess always come from behind the waterfall.
I hope that's what you're talking about... if not, I'll feel completely ridiculous.
I know water elevators work, because I joined my friend's game and semi-griefed him by placing hundreds of waterfalls, all facing the same direction, falling from the clouds above the lake directly in front of his house. I proceeded to fly my boat around above the clouds lol

Ok, so you actually pass beneath the wooden block prior to proceeding into the waterfall?
nope still cant seem to get it. my boat either gets pushed away from the waterfall by opposing current, OR gets pushed down underwater from the force of the water fall.
Apparently in 1.6.6, the force of the water from like a water fall, forces boats down and does not allow them to float.
wound up with a single column of 2x2 water going all the way up. used 4 water source blocks per level. Took a long time to make and isnt very fast, plus over extended distances it runs the risk of drowning.

Simply click from boat to boat to travel faster than any other method.
