Ruining ore

I mined some Redstone and diamond and then noticed it wasn't in my inventory it looks like it breaks and doesn't yield any ore I am using a stone picaxe can a stone pickaxe ruin ore blocks?

A stone pick doesnt break through diamond or redstone, you need iron.

obsidian breaks too, it just takes like 30 seconds or something crazy unless you have a diamond pick
