ive looked up and down my map, chopped every tree in sight, found countless caves/monster spawners, and never found 1 cocoa bean. is there something im doing wrong?

You find them in chests located in Dungeons. Not every chest will contain Cocoa Beans.

Try to search in desert biome, i found like 3 dungeon in sand biome on 3 different world of mine!

And, try to find a good map seed... I know there is one that we spawn over a dungeon....
