I really really hope there are texture packs, for sale ever, I would not mind.

Texture packs are all but confirmed, and will be free from what Paddy Burns had said in an interview with Eurogamer. As for the update, first a bug fix update then the next one will effectively update it to 1.7.3, with some possible additional features, or fixes, from 1.8.0 added in
