Has anyone made any successful mob systems, and if so what are the rates. I want to make a mob system myself but I want to know if it will be worth to use all those resources on it or not.
well so far I have built a passive mob sorter in a snow biome over ice. Had a couple chickens spawn in but so far nothing good. I have 9+ 4x4 spawning pads made of grass, roughly 32 blocks above sealevel, all lit up. Even when I go 30+ blocks away to get them to spawn in nothing spawns. Wish it was more worth it since getting grass to grow that high up wasnt fun or quick. hopefully my agro mob trap im building will work better

Thanks for the info, let me know how that agro mob trap goes.
I have built a 32x32 gravity trap at 60 blocks high, water channels connecting 16 pads thats enclosed. I got about 3 stacks of everything in an hour and a half of building other stuff around there and randomly wandering over to it. In the daytime amazing spawn rate. But at night it slows down quite a bit

I built a couple of cactus/netherrack traps just for defense (cacti destroy drops - so no farm there....). Pretty simple 4x4 holes in the ground with a cactus or one block high netherrack surrounded by water.
I've also built the classic gravity platform. 8x8 pads with water channels to a hole that's 24 blocks high - quick youtube search got this: No idea if that video is any good and I didn't watch it, but it's got a picture of what I'm talking about. Not sure if he mentions it, but don't forget to put torches and/or halfstones on top to stop mobs from spawning on top of the thing.
I haven't bothered to try to find out what the rate of drop is, but I can tell you it's very inconsistent. I'll get nearly 30 items one minute, then 2 for the next whole 10 minutes.....
i have a pretty good mob system it had 4 diffrents layers and on the roof i have a place that spawns animals for food..i get about 500 items per hours im not sure if thats any good but i currently have 5 large chests filled with mob drops. i really need slims for when we get pistons..
Agreed. I miss pistons.
I'm not going to bother searching out slimes before the update, though. I'll definitely be re-generating the world for the biome change.
In multiplayer I just use a bucket of water and a friend to simulate an auto-farm. It's "good enough" for now - especially for mushrooms. For anyone that doesn't know the trick, just pour water down an area that has wheat/mushrooms/item drops/whatever. The water will cause the wheat/mushrooms to pop out and wash down somewhere you can collect it. Just have a buddy wait down hill and wash your farm away.
I'm about 99% sure slimes are not in the game yet, They will probably be introduced in the next update (at the same time as pistons) i have several 50x50 size rooms down in the diamond layer build and lit up exlusively for slime farming. Anyone ever wants to play i'm on pretty consistantly XBL Name "Dope Deezy" Feel free to hit me up.
Slimes ARE in the game right now. Just really, really rare. I saw some awhile ago. IIRC, they only spawn in 10% of all chunks, and even the ones that CAN spawn have a 90% chance NOT too. So basically, it's a 1% chance you'll find them. Your slime farm is most likely in a chunk that can't spawn slimes.
As for mob systems, I have a basic water flow leading to a lava blade, with loot dropping down a hole below. I don't get much monsters though.

i plan on making this mob trap very soon, modified for this version of the game of course
