On the computer version of 1.6 the world was near infinite, only limiting players advances at the "far lands" by the engines inability to handle it. That left players with about 100,000 kilometers2.
Anyway, my point is that the Xbox version of 1.6 limits players to only 1 km2. I don't see any logical reason why this was implemented yet. Does anyone know why, because I haven't been able to uncover any reason by 4J .
The world size is in place because 4J didn't want to run the risk of the game being buggier than it already is or possible frame rate drop from having to load too many chunks.
It has been hinted that a map size increase will come with future updates, adding to already existing worlds.
I'd rather have smaller worlds and constant frame rate than vast worlds (that i prolly won't full explore)
The Xbox only has limited RAM (512Mb I think) so to make a map almost infinite would put it under too much stress.
RAM has nothing to do with the world size,
RAM provides space for your xbox to read and write data to be accessed by the CPU (the tri-core processor the xbox has) if the xbox had more RAM it will only create the terrain faster because your xbox will have more space to read more data and transfer it to the processor, it wont really stress your xbox but it will take a longer time to load. mind blown?
World size doesn't need to be infinite, or even all that massive really, but it definitely does need to be bigger. 2000 x 2000 would be a nice start, and 4000 x 4000 is probably ideal for 99.9% of players.
4k by 4 k yeah I just wish I could use a usb stick to add more ram. I hope that the xbox 720 has this option as well as 4 to 8 Gb ram and space for 2 or mod hardrives would be nice if there was like 20 Gbsolid state harddrive for xbox to use for all it sloppy os stuff like xbox live and guide buttons
