I like it, but most people who are used to the pc version probably don't. If you think of it in the develpers mind, this will appeal more to new players.
They should offer both systems on both platforms. They're both different, and offer different approaches to the game, but it's simple game design that something is broken when you need to use an outside source to gain information about how to do something in game, that should already be included.
I’ve played the pc version of Minecraft since alpha, and while I prefer the pc crafting system because of its “feel”, using the same system on the xbox would simply not work as well. The current xbox system is quicker in my opinion, but it would not hurt to add one or two more crafting subdivisions to find things faster.
I like the crafting system on xbox, I totally agree with the two posts I quoted. I just think it would be nice to have a universal option for all platforms added. So if your someone like me and gets a great game like minecraft and all its ports. Haveing an option to choose which way I like to craft and keep it the same through all ports. Hope that made sense I just woke up with only 3 hours sleep! God I love this game!
Personally and what i am going to tell you everyone has had to do it. If you had to use youtube reply or use the wiki you did not know crap. Now if you are new to the game on xbox and never played PC this crafting style is a great help. I say this because if you think about it it will tell you if you missing an item without trying to craft and then see you cant make it. I love this new version of crafting!!!!!!!
The crafting in Minecraft Xbox Edition is just annoying! Should have a setting were you can have the PC crafting style, and an option of the crafting now. I personaly like the PC crafting better because you dont need to search for what you need, just craft it! But the Xbox Crafting style is also helpful for people new to this game. Do you like my idea? Aslo should update game soon, it gets boring on single player!
its also helpful for people like me who cant remember stuff like recipes or if i look it up have to stare at it while making it
edit: to SuperJeffrey thank you for that i didnt know you could use the d-pad and i have been messing up everything trying to get the right thing
I would of liked the PC version of crafting, I would rather find out and learn them for myself. I don't dislike the 360's version tho.
Except that isn't what happens. Instead you just have to check the wiki's and memorize the recipes. It's pretty much the polar opposite of user friendly.
Excellent tip. I've been using the D-Pad from the start, but I'm surprised to see that not everybody tried that. Keep it in mind peeps, using the D-pad will make your inventory managment go much smoother. Get used to using the quick move button too, it'll make shifting between whats in your inventory and your hotbar a snap.
I'm sorry but unless they give us a recipe menu/sheet I cannot support it lol....I can deal with it on the PC because its a great game but if it was the same on the xbox...i'd still buy it but either way the xbox system is great/annoying at some times but it makes it more simple. Instead of wasting time of pausing the game to look up recipes we can just do it ourselves with the neat system they made for ease of access.

Just go on PC and craft some stairs and ladders and tell me that it's more fun to have to place every stick and cobble in the grid...
Use the D-pad, really helps.
