The Achievements List as it stands is a pretty good start, as it goes through the basics of mechanics. But I personally think there needs to be many, many more -- the list is rather paltry for a game of this depth. Could updates also add achievements?

well since the gamerscore cap stops the amount of achievements the game is aloud to have... i think they should have made the achievements a LOT harder. i finished them all in the first night the game came out...
Devs spending any time on achievements would be wasted time imo.
Far far better to spend time on improving, upgrading and debugging the game than to spend time adding more useless and totally pointless 'achievements'.
If it was a concerted effort that would take away from the development and debugging, I think you absolutely have a good point.
But I imagine accomplishments are VERY easy to program. All they have to do is check a condition and fire when it is met. It doesn't affect anything in the game, and adds a little Easter Egg flavor. But then, I suppose that doesn't appeal to everybody -- again, it makes no difference in the game.
Achievments are supposed to be hard. MCXBLA is waaaaay to easy, achievment wise.
Achievements are used to reward a specific action. They can be awarded for basic actions, such as completing a tutorial or creating a basic item; or for more difficult actions, like completing a game on the hardest difficulty or finding every hidden item. Nowhere is an achievement synonymous with difficulty; that is simply your biased viewpoint.
Furthermore, most of the achievements were ported from the PC version of Minecraft (only 3 were not). This also means that any future updates will likely contain the remaining PC achievements. Feel free to check out the remaining achievements for the PC version.
EDIT: If you want a true challenge, then how about spelling 'achievement' properly. Few posters in this thread seem capable of that task.
Edit: Where am I? Craft a Compass
Day and Night:Craft a Watch
Lumber Man:Chop 500 Wood
Coal Picker:Obtain Coal
DIAMONDS!:Mine 1 or more Diamonds
I Haz A Bucket:Craft a Bucket
NOOO!:Die from lava
Animal Abuse!:Kill 100 Animals
Mob Grinder:Kill 100 mobs
Window:Make Glass
Prinkly:Obtain a Cactus
Stairway To Heaven:Craft 200 pairs of stairs
Squidy:Kill 20 Squids
Pigmen?:Kill 5 Pigmen
I thought these were pretty good and maybe they should get added tbh

But I think they are using the same achievements from the PC
Nice idea
1. Your Daily Bread achievement is already an achievement.
2. We can not have anymore achievements due to the gamerscore limit.
Like your ideas though.
Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/
They explode?!?!?: Get killed by a creeper
Eating bread is better then being dead!: Eat a loaf of bread when on your last heart.
Apocalypse survivor: slay 10 zombies.
Gateway to hell: construct 3 nether portals.
Those aren't hard at all, I would have all of them if they were in the game. All except bake ten cakes, it's not worth the resources to make cakes.
Indeed -- achievements need to mean something positive, not finding new and gruesome ways to die. Unless that's the game's point, LOL!

As I found out last night that you CANNOT lure animals yet, yes.... getting ten eggs is downright heroic.
To be honest, I expected stuff like..... kill 10 Pigmen, Play a music disc, Build a Diamond Suit, etc.
