I looked through the forum a bit, but couldn't find anyone complaining about this. Sorry if it is answered elsewhere.
I've had 3 achievements in Minecraft not unlock for me so far even though I've met the conditions several times for each of them.
1) Bake Bread : Turn wheat into bread.
2) Monster Hunter : Attack and destroy a monster.
3) On A Rail : Travel by minecart to a point at least 500m in a single direction from where you started.
For the Bread and Hunter achievements I did the requirements both in my own game, and while joining someone else's game. For bread I cut the grass, tilled the land, planted the seeds, harvested the wheat, and made the bread all without anyone doing any of the steps for me (including building the hoe). I also made cake and had no issue with that achievement. For the rail I joined my son's game online (who had already built the rails -- and has helped others get the achievement) yet riding it both directions multiple times still didn't unlock the achievement.
When I first started the game, I started in split screen with my daughter. She has (and already had) all 3 of the achievements that I am unable to aquire. I only bring this up, because if you look at the xbox.com forums, it appears several people are having problems with playing splitscreen and achievements not unlocking. I'm wondering if something in her settings was transfered to my profile -- preventing them from ever unlocking.
I have tried recovering my profile (which has fixed other games with similar issues in the past) but to no avail.
However the basic answer is, 4JSteve is looking in to it. Though I didn't see any actual resolutions posted at this time. Just a bunch of people suggesting things that everyone says doesn't work (and I've tried most them before coming here). =(
Hopefully the next update will address some of these.
And just like that, I've fixed the problem. Here's the steps, which I'll post to the bug thread as well.
Here is a fix for those of you plagued with not getting achievements in Minecraft specifically because you played splitscreen with someone who unlocked the achievement first. Using the fairly commonly known USB trick, you can fix the problem by resetting your Minecraft stats. Here's how:
1. Put your GamerTag/Profile on a USB/Memory Card.
2. Log in to Xbox Live.
3. Launch Minecraft.
4. At the 4J Studios screen, pull the USB stick.
5. Your xbox will tell you to put the card back in, don't yet.
6. Pick play Game (you should get an error about not being able to load your profile). continue.
7. Once in the game, put your USB back in the system.
8. Pause and Exit. Will ask you if you want to save -- I picked yes, though I doubt this matters.
9. Log back in to LIVE (pulling your USB should have logged you out).
10. Perform the action you need to get an achievement -- it should pop.
Hope this helps some people, it fixed it for me =)
