Hi,
I'm a n00b well, I've had minecraft for three days, But I'm playing on peaceful 0_0
Anyway, is there anyway you can mark your spot on a map like a waypoint, So I can travel far but get back to my house, Becasw when traveling one day I found lava in the ground but could not find my house so I had to end up killing myself... I have put 2 extremely large towers of dirt by my house, but this doesn't help at all.... Is there anyway to put a mark on a map?, I need to make a map first, but I would like to know this
Right now no. Just gotta remember the about direction. If you built the towers then if you walk in the vicinity of your house you should be able to see it then.
Hmmm..... Also I'm confused about a compass, does it show your direction or does it always point to your bed?
Also... What of I just remember an area of the map?
Try building a few pixels of space in a noticeable block type on the map, say a 10x10 (or 20x20) square above everything, placed near your home. If you had it in a forest, use sand, sandstone, gravel, or perhaps water. In the desert? Use grass, wood, water, or dirt. Just make sure the color contrasts with the surroundings on the map - gravel appears as sand.
The reason for the 10x10 or 20x20? The map picks up a certain amount of blocks, and marks it as a whole 4x4/8x8/16x16/etc.-block pixel. To be very noticeable and not use lava, you'd need to have it BIG.
Oh, a tip: To create multiples of map_0 and map_0 specifically, shift-click the results. That may be fixed soon/now, though...
If I try to fail and I succeed, what did I really do?

The tip about making a big block so it shows up on the map (where your house is) is a good one, but it's easier to just remember where your original spawn point and your house is on the map.
You don't "need to make a map first"- you get one at the beginning.
The compass points to the original spawn point, and that's all it will ever point to. If you built your house near there, no problem. If you built it away from there, a compass is useless. The map is much better. However, be aware that the map does not orient itself to North. (For instance, in my world, the map "north" is almost pointing east!)
I'm not wrong, it's not bugged (anymore than the 1.6 beta is anyway) and of course my spawn is past the center of the map - I already said that.
I followed the compas on different maps and it always send me to the middle of it.. I don't know why you are having such a hard time accepting that?
Because that's not how compasses work. They point towards your original spawn. That's how they worked when they were added and that's how they work now on PC.
They aren't changing functions of items and you agree its not bugged so the last possible option is that you're wrong.
Sorry but you are. The compass was never made to point towards the center of the map.

I'm usually not trying to be rude. So if a post comes across that way then sorry :]

The compass always points to your original spawn point. Not your bed.

That's not how compasses have ever worked. So you're either wrong, your spawn is past the center of the map, or its bugged.
Compasses in the PC version have always pointed towards your original spawn and that's how they should work in the 360 version as well.

Not the compass.
Spoiler 2:
If it's not North then... well, it's some direction that they *always* go in. Assuming the MineCraft Sun is like our Sun, it's North.
You can also use portals to teleport back to your house provided you have a portal in your house. Or drop torches behind you constantly.
This is also pretty awesome.
I'm not making random assumptions. It points toward the original spawn on PC so it does on the 360. They aren't changing functions on items.
So as I said earlier. You're either wrong, its bugged, or you're on the other side of the map from where you spawned every time you use a compass.

I use the Sun, Moon, Clouds, and Compass to find my way around in Minecraft. It's not hard if you try.
