Going to make a rail that reach the bottom of my quarry, traveling down is easy but coming back up, how many blocks/tracks will the minecart move without a powered rail?
Um zero. If the Minecraft isn't being pushed by any power source, it isn't going to move at all. You need powered rails or a powered minecart to puch carts up slopes.

Derp, I'm assuming you have one powered rail to start, so how many blocks will that one power rail propel you uphill?
I know that an empty minecart doesn't go as far as when a player is on a minecart. If anything, you'll just have to go through trail and error. First make a slope with 5 rails going uphill, if the minecart seems to take them with ease, add more rials if the minecart can't handle it, just place a power rail and repeat once more to see how far it goes with a power rail, and then you know how to build it.
I usually do a powered rail every 3rd or 4th rail going up, if you have a turn, keep in mind the turns will slow you also going up. On flat ground I put powered rails every 16th block.
