No. I am not asking for a release date or any info that isn't readily available via quick Google search. I am just making a small request.
I have no idea how future updates will affect our current worlds. I doubt anyone but those employed by 4J have any clue either. So we don't know if it'll expand our world with new biomes/clay/etc... or if we'll have to begin a new world.
What I am asking though, is that we have some way to restart (if that is the intended method of implementing updates) on our current world. I absolutely love the world I spawned in and did not type in a "seed". I just accepted what was randomly generated for me and began from there. But the way it is laid out is so perfect, I couldn't imagine beginning again in a potentially lesser world. And I have no idea what my "seed" word/code would be. So, if at all possible, please allow us to either figure out what our code would be to return to our current world(s) or just allow us to reset it, but with updates added in.
And maybe I'm sounding naive as to how the game works, I have only been playing for a week now, but I have been resisting venturing out too far thinking that maybe, just maybe, if I wait long enough for the updates, that those unexplored regions could render with updates. Please correct me if I'm mistaken in my assumption.
Ideally though, updates would be additions to our current map... but we'll all have to wait and see if that dream happens or not.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
We will be adding a way to view the seed for your world. As for the other stuff, I can't say at the moment what will happen.
That is exactly the answer I was looking for. Sweet. Thanks.

I know that this post is months old at this point, but I'd like to support and add to what GirlGolemHeresy had to say before a map-related update is released...
Please - if there is a map update, give the users the option to maintain compatibility with their old maps. I'm up for the idea of map size expansion or a new map generating algorithm. If there is a new map system, I would suggest keeping the old map system and letting the user specify - when they make a new map - which map generator they wish to use. This way, we can enjoy our old maps already as they are and even start new maps with the old map generator. Alternately, users who desire the new maps could use the new map generator. This could be easily configurable - as simple as one check box.
Also, if the devs find it possible, the older maps could be expanded using a new map generating algorithm. The coordinates for the map as it was before would be unaffected, and the new areas could be added on for the edges. This way, two different map systems could be applied to a single map without conflicting.
I think map expansion has great potential - especially with the introduction of new biomes. I'd like to see new content, but I'd also like to see the old content remain available.

You can still use old worlds when the new updates come out. Don't expect an option to be able to use the old terrain generation. They aren't adding new terrain generation code, they are replacing it. They have already said updates will be mandatory, so don't expect an option to switch between what terrain generation you want, especially since you can't do that on the PC version. If you want to generate an old world, then clear your system cache and start the world without the updates installed. As for if they expand world sizes, it should apply to old worlds also, they will just have a noticeable boundary between the old world generation and new world generation.
First, I'd like to say thank you to the developers for making in the seed value visible.

Well...you can't blame me for trying. I expected this would happen, but I hoped it would not. I realize the PC version does the same thing, but I still hold by what I said; I think many players would enjoy access to both map generators. Having done some programming myself, I imagine it being very easy to keep both the old and new code - especially for a sophisticated developer such as 4J Studios, but I can't say for sure because I'm not a developer myself.
I know about the clearing system cache option - I don't know if that applies to downloaded games. Either way though, I did back up an older version for when the update does happen. If it means a lot of work, then maybe it wouldn't be worth the bother. However, even with workarounds, if it's a simple and quick fix, I believe adding code instead of replacing it would make lot of players very happy.
My goal isn't to complain to the developers until I get my way; just to express my personal opinion. It provides constructive feedback to the developers which in turn benefits their customers. If we get enough people interested, maybe we can convince them.

For all those who are wishing for the maps to be increased in size, let me tell you that the two terrain generators don't work well together. When the adventure update came out on PC, and you wandered into new territory there were huge issues with it. In my PC world, for example, I ran into huge flat cliffs that stretched for miles. I also ran into areas where sea levels were at two different heights, making it impossible to traverse by boat. I'm sure that some of my PC brethren can vouch for this. Trust me, be careful what you wish for, or your old world may be trapped inside a big chunk error box that just does not look right.
Even if an old map can't be expanded and look totally clean, it would be nice to access it as was. If the developers wanted to leave the option for map expansion, even if it looked messy, it could still be made configurable. That way anyone who felt inclined could still enjoy the mixing of the maps. If the developers really wanted to perfect a mixing of the algorithms, I'm sure they could think of something, but I don't expect they'll to do that. If it were to be done though (just an idea), maybe buffer areas could be placed where the map-generating algorithms meet - areas meant to merge two different chunks of land at different altitudes. I don't have any particular desire to see this happen myself though. What I'm hoping for is to be able to enjoy the old maps as is.
...it also may be fun just to see someone's reaction to the two generators come together. I could see amusing myself (and other people) with a totally messed up map. I think that may perhaps be best left up to unofficial mods instead.

This is great so you can hear the fans.
This thread bores me.
