Since Minecraft has been out for a week now, I'd like to give it my review.
Now, I'm new to Minecraft, and the tutorial was a great add to the game for newbies like me. It gave the player a taste of what It's like to play the Xbox edition. Although it does help with new players, it does loose the sense of learning on your own in some ways. All in all, the tutorial was a good add.
The controls were good. Not the best, but good. It took a little getting used to at the beginning, but It's been a breeze since I've gotten used to it. The only problem with the controls is that you can't press B in the inventory/crafting table, because you will throw your stuff out. Another thing is the way to choose items. It's not the best either. When you need to choose an item quickly, you have to tap LB or RB to get to your item. This could pose a problem. There could've been a shortcut key, using the D-Pad. So I give the controls 7/10.
Now the actually gameplay for me was astounding. It was clear and smooth, running 60 FPS, or frames per second. It looks exactly like the PC version, and runs very well. It has everything the PC version has (or had, since it is in beta 1.6.6). There are the dungeons, they have the mobs, they have everything. Which includes the bugs. A lot. Sometimes you can't place water, mobs are seen through walls, etc...but It's in the Xbox's alpha stage, so of course there are gonna be bugs. The worst bug is probably the leaderboard bug. It freezes when you try go through the leaderboards. The most controversial thing about this is the world size. It's about 1024x1024, and the sense of exploration for most people is gone. But I give gameplay an 8/10
Multiplayer. It was the most anticipated feature of the whole release. Then on release day...let's just say they used "false advertising". Multiplayer (splitscreen) required at least a 720p HDTV, with an HDMI cord. This is understandable, to keep the screens readable, but should've been brought up a few days before release. But splitscreen was, in fact, the most enjoyable experience I had with Minecraft. Sitting on a couch with on of your friends and building together, exploring together, and gathering resources together is truly an amazing experience. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out on something fun. So multiplayer gets a 9/10.
Overall, I give the game an 8/10. A great game, yet a game that needs to be fixed. But I would recommend it to a friend, because this game is so enjoyable, and let's your imagination soar to whatever you want to create.
