Animals constantly spawn and then despawn depending on your distance from them. Say you see a chicken, adn then you walk a certain amount of blcoks from said chicken, that chicken will despawn and disappear.
I don't remember the block distance but that may be what is happening to you. Animals on your world could be spawning and then despawning without you even noticing.
It's not a despawn thing there just not there at all we did try to Chang difficulty it worked with single player but as soon as the rest of us joined they were gone again can't even get wool to make beds sucks
Having a lot of wolves will prevent all passive mobs from spawning. It doesn't matter where you put your wolves in the world; if they're alive, no animals will spawn. You'll have to kill most of them, sadly =(
i tried the zombie pigman idea and it works great! I dont know about moving the dogs but the same problem has happened to me on mine, so any ideas help me too. If anyone wants to friend me so they can play with me I'm Firefox22235.
I started having the same problem with no animals spawning. I started reading people saying if you have too many tamed wolves in a certain area it would prevent animals from spawning near them. At the time i did have a wolf pen of 20+ wolves in it. I sperated them to all corners of my building area and only left at most 2 in the same general vicinity. After that animals started spawning again.
So i have to agree with all the people above who mentioned the wolves. Give that a try and see if it helps.
How many wolves do you have in your pack ? Passive mobs stopped spawning for me when my pack got to 20, I assume we have an passive entity limit and our wolf pack can reach that limit easily.
I can get passive mobs back by moving far from my wolf pack and re-loading. Passive mobs then reappear until I get close to my wolfpack again.
Tonight I'm going to try and have 6 wolves maximium per pack and split the packs up across my map. I'll let you know if that solves this issue. I really don't want to have to build a wolf euthanasia clinic, I didn't imagine the first time I'd tamed a wolf I that I might need to do that. Sad face.
There is a cap on the number of passive mobs total that can exist at anyone time within the render distance of a player (which is a long ways - I think something in the order of 128 or 256 blocks - It might be shorter on the Xbox vs. the PC). The cap formula changes a bit depending on how many individual players there are in the world at anyone time. However, it is much lower for the passive mobs (16-20 for a single player) than the hostile ones (79 or so for a single player).
Splitting the wolf packs up into smaller units should free up some of the cap in any given area... ONLY if the packs are far enough apart so that only one pack at a time is within that rendering distance from you or any other player in the world at the same time.

Farm has:
Day 1 - 14
Sheep and Cow
Day 15 -
Sheep, Cow and Chicken
No sign of pig yet
Probably so.
For some reason, Xbox Minecraft is extremely limited. The mob spawn caps will likely never be increased.

I really hope 4j fixes this.
