Before the 1.8 update, clouds existed between layers 108 and 112.
That means when you are near or in clouds, you are around 108-112. The world height limit is 128. Bedrock appears bewteen layers 1-5.
Using a combination of those things, it's very easy to tell where you are in the layers of the world. I don't see why people need coordinates. It's not hard to find out for yourself unless your just lazy, which it seems a lot of people are these days.
If you dig down until you're standing level with lava pools, that's usually a y value of 12 on the PC version. Coincidentally, 12 is my favorite level to branch mine at, so that's pretty useful

How can one determine how deep they are or on what layer they are on the MCxbox360 version?
