I've searched but everything posted online that I can dig up is about much later patches and include some things I know isn't in the game. ( First time playing Minecraft )
A friend and I are building a few larger scale items, and have noticed that my poor excuse for a tree farm at times is FULL and others half of them grow while the others look at me and laugh. Any suggestions?
What you need to do is plant two sapplings next to each other, grow one with bone meal, destroy the leaves above the other sappling, then grow that tree. If the sappling remains in the shade of the trees leaves, it will not grow to a big tree.
I plant them in a row with no spaces between them. They are real easy to cut down this way by starting at the top and working your way down the whole row.
Don't for get to put a torch on the ground next to the sapling so it grows at night and in shadows.
If you grow a tree then cut the trunk down to the ground then place a new sappling under it with a torch near by it grows into a big tree, i do this repeatedly when i need wood.
My tree farm uses birch trees. You can place them 2 blocks apart and they don't grow too tall or create a giant oversized tree.. My farm is a bit bigger than this, but you get the idea. I also have torches next to each sapling to make sure it can grow whenever.
Some trees grow one block too tall to cut down on the ground, so simply leave the bottom block of wood, and stand on that to reach to the top.
Hey guys, this is like the first forum I've used and gotten this much feed back, thanks a lot. I use Oak and from what you've told me I need to either expand my farm or grow one made of birch.. I made mine with 2 blocks apart from each side, with water and Torch placements. idk how to draw the diagrams. You guys were extremely helpful =]. Oh and I don't have an excess amount on bone mill... but we are chopping then building, the plants usually have enough time to grow themselves.
