I was completely unaware that on the xbox edition of minecraft, one would not be able to visit each others world while the host was offline, like you can do on the pc.
If I would have known this, I would not have bought the xbox version of this game. This really kills it for me, as I play on my friends world when he is online. We have logged 20+ hours into this world so neither of us really wants to start a new one, alone much less.
It just really blows that I can't go on our world just because he is offline. There NEEDS to be a fix for this. I feel like this is one of the most important features, and the company behind minecraft knowingly didn't tell anyone this would not be added.
Seriously, I know you can make this work somehow. Please do it.
For the PC, servers are hosted either on a personal computer (Likely the one running minecraft as well) or a server is rented out. Either way, if the host goes offline or otherwise shuts down the server...well, you can't access it.
It's not a problem, it's just that the server (That is, your friend's 360) shuts down when he goes offline. To be able to access it when the host is away, he'd need a dedicated server, which Minecraft 360 does not support.
I agree. The idea behind XBL is supposed to be that you don't need a server. That supposed to be part of WHAT you pay for in your MS monthly for the service.
Maybe somehow 4J could make Minecraft xbox360 edition able to connect to 3rd part servers? There is some precedence for linking XBL profiles to the title vender's website and allowing some additional features thought that. (Dragon-Age, GTA IV, Army of Two, Mass Effect 3, etc...) Perhaps make a portal you link to your XBL account, then from there add/remove worlds and servers.
I read somewhere that a world share option is planned, but I didn't read it from an official source.
There is a solution that would work, but it's a bit costly.
Set up an Xbox Live Gold Account specifically to host your world. Start a game, use the cloud save option to save it. Share the account info with your friend so that whoever is online first can recover the gamertag, and then host the game. If the hosting player needs to quit, they save the game and sign out. The other player then recovers the gamertag, and now they can host the game.
Besides needing an extra account, or sharing your current one, the only downside is that you'd have to unlock achievements twice, but they're pretty easy on this game, and I doubt many people are playing this for achievements.
You would also be limitied to a 512 MB world, but I don't think that would be an issue.
Let me know what you all think, in case I'm overlooking a flaw in this plan.
Shake, I understand you mean well, but sharing account info with anybody, even a close friend, is not something to be recomemended.
Maybe you need better friends.
If you're worried though, set up a free email account and use pre paid gold subscription cards from a store. That would even allow you to split the cost of a shared account. What risk is there then in sharing an account?
And I never recommended it, I just said there is a solution, and explained it.
Hi Loganzwon, the XBL fee does not grant access to a personal Server. Unless games are using dedicated servers hosted by their developers, i.e. EA servers , games must be hosted through the players themselves, and this can not be done if the Host themselve is not online and actively hosting the lobby 4J may work on what will be possible in time to come, but for now things are the way they are.
So we pay for the ability to host games ourselves? Oh, and to look at advertisements! Seems like a raw deal.
On topic though, I'm more upset that you can't share worlds offline, i.e, two profiles on the same hard drive can't play on the same world at different times. I understand that the data is saved to the individual's profile instead of the hard drive. Hopefully that will change, assuming it's technically possible
thats like saying you want to play on your friends saints row world while he's offline, or wanting to playyour friends halo campaign while he's offline, your logic is flawed
I would happily pay a monthly/quarterly fee so my world was online 24/7 I've debated running my spare xbox but more concerned of it going into meltdown after a few days .... not wise to burn the house down for a game lol.
They should allow this through the cloud drive...But I assume that would involve granting permissions and Microsoft doesn't have that built into their cloud storage OR they don't want to have that mess on their hands which could lead to issues.
I do think they should simply have a synch option - or a save this world to your own hard drive.
You'd be in a situation of forking...But you'd at least be able to share which is nice.
OR rent a server. They do it for Battlefield 3. Why not do it for Minecraft? Or provide free server software so if you have your own server you can install it and join the persistent world. I think it's a crucial feature that should exist. It's what helped propel games like Counter-Strike back in the day. When people can modify settings on their servers, tiles, etc. it leads to a lot of really nice customizations and things.
Sharing accounts like that is a TOS violation I believe, so constantly recovering the account back and forth would likely result in a ban if the Live system decided it was happening to much and alerted enforcement. If that happens you lose the money, the account and your work.
Still very much relevant though. I don't get this old thread rival whining where others will whine use the search function. Obviously someone used the search function for what it was designed to do. Kuddos to him/her.
When someone tells another to use the search function, they're implying someone use it to find the information they're looking for. Not to re post on a thread that is months old.

I trust this close friend with my life, and definitely my account info. I'm sorry you have no friends like that.
Youtube
Requires a flash drive.. but you can share worlds.
Me: Facepalm
That option is used to take a screenshot and share it to Facebook.
Nothing else.
