The 1000 by 1000 limitation on XBL version worlds isn't a huge problem. It really isn't. It doesn't bother me and it shouldn't really bother you. The only major issues are the extremely limited Clay, Pumpkins and Dungeons on any given server, as well as the fact that some types of Biomes may be extremely small or missing entirely.
But what about when the XBL version is brought up to date with the PC version?
The 1.8 Patch was literally called "The Adventure Update". There is no "adventure" in a 1000x1000 world. Not just the 1.8 patch, the release version as well as some later patches don't seem like they would really function on a limited world. Here are just a few examples I have thought of, and why they simply will not function on the current limited map size.
Abandoned Mineshafts/Ravines
These are generally very, very large underground complexes leading to all sorts of riches for those daring to explore. They are also not very common. This problem can go one of two ways on any given server: you could either end up on a world with not a single Abandoned Mineshaft, or the world under the surface could be dominated by a Mineshaft occupying a majority of the map. I suppose Mineshafts could be resized for our version, but they serve a very important role as one of the only providers of...
Pumpkin/Melon Seeds
Based on my experience on the PC version, with how rare these can be, most XBL worlds simply will not have either. Granted, you can survive with no Melons and Pumpkins. But it is a sad, sad world without them
Nether Fortresses
This faces a similar issue to the Mineshafts and Ravines, but is even worse because the Nether is downright TINY on the current worlds. There either won't be one, or it will be the entire Nether. Many worlds may be without a Blaze spawner entirely, which means there will be issues with...
Potion Making
With little to no Netherwart and possibly no Blazes at all, potioncrafting is going to be... problematic. Possibly nonexistent. Something is gonna have to be overhauled for the 360 version if the world size is not increased in later patches.
The End
This is the obvious one. Strongholds typically spawn at least 600 blocks from spawn, and you spawn in the middle of a map with 500 blocks in either direction to the edge. Sure, you can just make the Stronghold for the map spawn near an edge, but with such a small world, the great server undertaking that is FINDING the Stronghold is gonna be... underwhelming to say the least.
These are just a few things I came up with off the top of my head that will be major issues in the coming patches with the current world size. Now let me make something clear, THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE WORLD SIZE LIMIT. I am fine with it as it is, its not a big deal at the moment.
I am just curious as to how 4J is going to handle adding in these new features. How do you think it will be done? Do you think we're going to eventually get an increased world size? What other issues do you think will crop up with the limited world and future patches (anyone who manages to find a Mushroom Biome on a 1k by 1k world deserves a prize, and is required to share the seed )?
TL;DR Go die in a fire. Quit being lazy and read the OP.
Sorry if I mention some other Xbox voxel games here, but they are very relevant. Total Miner, Castle Miner, and Fortresscraft have managed never-ending worlds through serious optimization. However they have a lot less going on compared to minecraft, also their loading speeds can be very slow (Fortresscraft). However, it is definitely possible to at least increase the size of the max world with a little optimization on 4J's part. Then, scaling the future updates will be a little easier.
It was a mistake for them to make this game for the Xbox.
The console is just too damn weak, it's ancient technology.
It's a shame for the newcomers who are playing MC for the first time on Xbox, they have no idea what they're missing out on.
Yeah I have to disagree on this one...the game has been out all of what, 6 days? It has been made painfully obvious that they plan on updating the game and despite the fans (Myself included) being impatient, the current game is great.
I feel it is best to start this way and patch it up so those that are new get to go through the evolutionary experience of MC like the vets did. Albeit at a faster pace!

Actually, Minecraft can run just fine on it's specs. Infinite worlds may not be possible, but massive ones are.
Onto the topic at hand, what I really want Is the Hunger meter and bug fixes. I forgot how cumbersome lugging around half a dozen pork chops is just to heal from a slight fall.

I'll be completely honest, I don't want any of these features added. I'm perfectly fine without them. The world size is fine as is. I still wish you could make dedicated servers using your xbox but I can live without it. The new features for the so called 'adventure' update kind of ruined the game for me. Swamps were no fun to me cause of the water and the gross grass color and it wasn't habitable. I did, however, like the Jungles.
The world size doesn't really bother me that much because I don't usually go outside the map that often, and if I don't like what I'm in I create a new world.
As for the adventure update, I thought it was good and bad. Reasons: Strongholds and abandoned mine shafts ruined the awesome cave structure that took place. There were still some amazing caves don't get me wrong, but there are less. The farming aspect of the game I loved because I enjoyed growing plants and making nice thriving farms. **As for ravines, I didn't enjoy them because it made the game too easy. "want to go find some diamond?" "yeah sure, lets go find a ravine"
As for some bugs I found. Can't walk through reed. Wooden half steps are still stone. There's more but It's way easier to explain in person. I love it.
---edit---*
After reading the rest of the thread - Hunger kind of ruined it for me as well. When I want to go on big adventures I don't want to half to try to keep me alive, or if I'm down in a cave mining and all the sudden I go hungry.
Some things I personally want would be: Sprinting, walking through reed, shears just for tree leaves, farmable pumpkins and melons, and villages(With the option to turn them off)
You have no idea what you are talking about do you? Yeah we are missing out on some things but most of those things are just mods and the like. The World size limit has NOTHING to do with console limitations. Just Laziness on behalf of 4J.
The fact that their long term goal is to make this version and the PC's backwards compatible increasing the world size to PC standards is almost guaranteed. They Just botched this version to meet with the deadline.
I have a hard time believing it's laziness on their part, but i'm willing to believe what you said about the hardware specs.
WeAreThrong made a good point, he said the idea behind starting at a much earlier version adds anticipation for the newcomers... because half the fun of playing Minecraft is waiting to see what's coming up in the next update. I think i'm starting to get it now, the reason why the game seems so tiny is for the new players... because Minecraft can be a very overwhelming game at first. And considering the fact that console gamers tend to be more casualized (not a bad thing).
So basically..... I think 4J is trying to build up the community in a similar fashion as the PC community got to experience.
I think people need tp calm themselves,Go outside and take in a few deep breaths of fresh air.The game just came out a few days ago and already everyone is screaming Update this and give us that. Seriously. If things get rushed things will go sour fast.Believe me i have been there and seen the chaos of what happens when a game gets rushed with updates and patches. You have to give it time.Good things come to those who wait. I'm willing to bet that Mojang/4J have the updates submitted to Microsoft already. And microsoft needs to test all of it before they can throw it out there. I'm also gonna guess Monthly updates.Just a guess.
Total Miner does have a limited surface area, but the total area is still quite large, because the depth is about 2k.
It really doesn't matter seeing as Total Miner is getting "infinite worlds" in the next 1-2 updates. I don't keep up with any of the Minecraft rip offs but I did see that somewhere. I know its true too. It was something by the devs I can't remember where though. Gonna bug me all day now.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I can't figure out how to do the achievement get thing, so.... yeah

I'm a terrible person, I know. I can't believe I didn't just abbreviate it either, the irony would have been delicious.
I hope
This is another major issue. There are no new chunks to generate new shinies
When did Total Miner get neverending worlds? I played it last a week or two before MC came out and the world size was 250x250.
Total Miner does have a limited surface area, but the total area is still quite large, because the depth is about 2k.
I'm guessing this is one of the reasons they didn't release it at 1.2.5

I can't wait for hunger as well!

The bug was present in 1.6 and was fixed in 1.7. That means, in the next update, you will se clay everywhere in the water.
