If it's a normally practical item and it's made of gold, it's worthless unless you enchant it, which I don't think exists in the current version. Save it for golden apples and water-breathing helmets down the road.

I just gather the lot, make them into gold blocks, and am currently under construction of a supposed "Herobrine" altar. The loading screen gave me the idea.

MCX360 is out? Of course it is, I got it at 5 in the morning.
Theoretically, Gold armor/ tools are more powerful than diamond. EX) gold armor will protect you from more damage. HOWEVER, gold is not very durable. A gold pickaxe is about as durable as a wooden one.

OT: Gold tools are terrible. If I were you, I would save the gold ingots. Once you have a good amount, make them into gold blocks.
