Don't confuse updates with DLC. Updates (as in patches) are free for users, but developers (supposedly) have to pay $40.000 for each patch. Mojang has a deal with MS, so that they don't have to pay that fee for three updates (iirc).
Do you have a source that states they have three free updates?
Anyway, small patches and bug fixes are one thing. But, if I had to, I would pay for DLC if it basically entailed a major "update". I would just consider it a donation to 4J, a lot of the revenue would be going back into the game anyway.
Somebody just told me that Microsoft has a limit on amount of free updates you are allowed. So we will get a few free updates, then we have to pay for the rest. I hope to god that's not true. Is it?
MMM that made me think what game has had the most updates...I sure hope not. I think you should always update your game with fixes and bugs within reason. (if its played by a high amount after 3/5 years then yes)
