I don't understand why the previous topic needed locking, there wasn't any hostility in it and if discussion was finished it would've died anyways. A lot of people say that the Xbox Edition isn't free because it isn't a version, it's a separate game. Notch stated numerous times that the Xbox Edition is a new version of the game, and the same goes for the Xperia Play and iOS editions.
These are just a few examples. Also, in response to the "when was the last time a developer gave you all versions of the game..." question, there are actually quite a few cases of this recently. All Humble Bundle games came with unlimited DRM free copies for GNU/Linux, OSX, and Windows. All Steamplay games come with an OSX version in addition to the PC version. When I bought Portal 2, I was able to play both single player on PC and Co-Op splitscreen on the PS3 because the PS3 version of the game not only came with a PC version of the game, but contained cross-platform play.
I'm just trying to understand why the Xbox 360 Edition isn't free, why it isn't considered a "version," and why every attempt to discuss the matter is getting locked it seems. I would like to make a request that moderators or administrators don't just lock this thread because like I said, the thread will die naturally once all of the discussion is ended, and there hasn't been any widespread hostility yet. Forums and message boards were created and are intended to be places for mature discussion of various topics, right?
Minecraft on Xbox is not a new "version" of the game. Mojang have licensed the Minecraft IP to Microsoft who are developing their own game, it isn't a game developed by Mojang. Notch's comments always referred to new versions of Minecraft on PC, the comments were made when Minecraft PC was the only edition (before Mojang was even a real company!) and to try and twist his words is incredibly lame.
Do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts that he meant the xbox version of the game when he said that statement, when the xbox version wasn't even planned because Notch didn't even know the game was going to be successful? If you can answer yes to that then sure, I'll give you your free copy that you're "owed", but I don't think you can.
Also we lock these topics because they come up every hour, same complaints and the same answer EVERY TIME. No matter how persuasive your argument is, or even if your argument is somehow "right", it won't change anything. You'd have better luck changing the colour of the sky.
Minecraft on Xbox is a unique game, it has different features and controls, it has different developers and different development plans, to compare them to Steam's mac and windows versions is disingenuous.
MCX360 was made by 4J Studios not Mojang... since a different company made the game AND its on micosoft's xbl we have to pay for their effort... otherwise it wouldn't have ever come to the xbox360 since Mojang didn't really plan on porting it to the xbox.
I'm unsure how that changes what Notch promised during alpha though. He never said anything about whether or not a different developer making the game would invalidate the guarantee.
Also citric, I don't know why you wouldn't believe that when Notch said a new version of Minecraft is coming to the XBox 360, he was talking about a version of minecraft for the XBox 360. I do honestly believe I and every other alpha customer are entitled to an XBox 360 minecraft key.
I think it isn't free because Mojang wants to make some money from it, Minecraft isn't very expensive and has updates being constantly released so they just wanted some extra revenue for the hard work they've done. There's nothing wrong with that. It was also developed by another studio so they have to earn money too.
And by the way enough with this Alpha customers are superior and deserve more ********, you guys may have gotten the game earlier but you didn't pay more for the game, you actually payed less, the game was cheaper before full release. You "Alpha customers" didn't do anything extra besides buy Mojang's product. Congratulations you bought a game before other people, I don't know where your medal is either.
Different developer, different money pool, different program language, different console, all in all, its a different game. Also notch stated you as an alpha player wouldnt have to pay for HIS work on HIS game back when he probably wasnt even thinking MC was going to be on XBL at all.
