The trick is to efficiency mine. Dig a stair down to bedrock. Then start a small hub area. Open your first shaft, a two high, one wide, tunnel. Just big enough to fit through. Go down it a ways. When you get tired of that one, back out of it and then start another one next to it, leaving a two block space between them.
Doing this makes certain that you ONLY see "new" blocks in each tunnel. Other methods have you wasting time mining stone you've already seen. When you've dug out most of the surrounding area, you move UP a level the same way you move ACROSS to make new tunnels. Leave two blocks between the floor you started on, and the floor you are moving to.
Using this, in about 3-4 hours I've gotten 15 diamond, 50 iron, 30-ish gold, 60 coal, and 3 full stacks of redstone. Mind you, I was also having to harvest trees and replant them about 4 times in that span. I also built a full railroad with powered rails to get me across the map TO my shaft and down the stair to bedrock. Oh yeah, that helps save time too. powered rails are the hotness. If you aren't redstone savvy, you can still build solid rail systems using nothing more than powered rails with detector rails on either side. At each end, you just place a powered rail with a button on a rock beside it. Nothing too tricky, and it cuts down your return time a lot.
Was playing last night on a server with 4 - 5. We found loads of diamonds on XBL. I found 12 in a few minutes.
But in PC it took me AGGGGGEEESSSSSS to find like 20.
Anyone else have this experience yet?
It mainly has to do with the seed... and a lot of luck.
For awhile I had a very small pile of diamonds and all of a sudden this one dungeon had around 20 or more of them. My friend has been exploring this one dungeon and has found around 50 and I fell down a freaking hole while looking for clay and found 9 more... Maybe I have bad luck finding them... Or maybe his world is a diamond mine (His world is random like mine, btw).
Wired im i the only one finding stacks of dimonds in bout a hour usally? O.o
i found like 20 spots with 4-8 dimonds each while i was lost in a minesaft my friend made
my map has so much redstone ima dye mineing it all alone
alot of coal also usally near redstone
decent amout of gold
ALOT OF IRON lol
i rly needa stop randomly generateing my worlds tho hehe
Around 109 diamonds. I use them really often, i've prob went through atleast 10-11 diamond picks and like 3 diamond shovels. I've had a lot of diamond. I haven't mined much lately though.

Lol, i dont mean to burst your bubble, i found 16 in my friends rpg world when i went for redstone in a hole lol. nice find though.
I have found more in the xbox version than the pc version. But then again, I had found about 12 in pc version, made the tools I needed and have yet to go searching for more since there is so much more to do. They are probably about as common in either version.
I have MUCH more gems in the Xbox 360 Edition to the PC Version. It is mostly because I have started the technique of strip mining. Overall, I have over 22 Blocks of Diamond by doing this method and cave-crawling.
