When was lightning strikes added to Minecraft? I never build in stone, and almost exclusively build in wood on servers with firespread off. But this is the xbox... I've never had to fear my huge wooden constructions being burned down... so how do you guys deal with lightning if your working with large amounts of wood? Just sleep every night?
There is lightning because one of the tips in the loading screen is said wool left out in the open can be struck by lightning in a thunderstorm. I don't know abou wood though. I think it can be struck too. I built the roof of my house out of wood and the walls out of cobble so it can't burn down.
I've yet to actually see lightning/rain at all yet, but I assume the lighting has about a 1/1000 chance of hitting that certain spot, assuming it is on or above the surface, as the seeds are 1000x1000 blocks. I personally prefer to make mine out of cobblestone or regular stone from a furnace, but I don't think sleeping will make it disappear, after all it just speeds you through the night.

MCX360 is out? Of course it is, I got it at 5 in the morning.
I thought lightning was a newer version addition than what we have access to in 1.6. I've not seen any lightning in my rainstorms yet, but i had a big issue with it in PC and being afraid that my very large structures would burn. Also, sleeping 'should' make it go away with the idea that the game doesnt render while your asleep and the time cycle is being brought to day, it doesnt "speed" up everything that happens (should be proven by the fact that a furnace doesnt continue to cook while your asleep, because if it did everything would be done by the time your game woke up).
Fix me if I'm wrong, it just all sounds pretty right in my mind lol.
Well, I may be wrong here, but on my PC version, when I sleep and leave 10+ Iron ore in my furnace, it finishes if I go to sleep after placing it inside. It may have been added in a future version, and you could be right. We'll just see what the future brings for us console users.
Well just because the tip is there, doesnt necessarily mean its in the game currently. Theres also a tip about Herobrine possibly being in the game as well

Well, truly, the lightning, usually put out by rain, can strike where rain can not reach. e.g: The underside of a tree, hidden by the leaves, that allows it to spread, as long as it is covered from the rain.
Although I build my houses out of wood, I build all my walls and roofs out of glass to get the best view possible. Would this mean I am safe from lightning??
