I have run into this problem myself, i went into the nether for some glowstone, and on returning to my portal to go back, my game crashed. No idea how it happens, but i did find a solution. So take everything you have that you came for, soul sand, lava, netherrack, glowstone and place them down near your portal, as for items you cant place, just drop them close to the portal where you will remember where to look, and then jump into a fire or lava, or off a cliff, get mauled by pigmen, blown up by a ghast, whatever, just kill yourself, you will respan back in the overworld, go though your overworld portal, grab your stuff again, your dropped items wont despawn(unless you take longer than about ten minutes or so) so grab those as well, then go back through your portal, and remember before you go through the portal to bring a chest to put your stuff into to make things easier. Thats what i do, and it works for me. Going to the nether can crash your game in multiplayer, it happens to me alot. My advice for that is just dont look at the player when they go through the portal, also i have found that if you have an inventory screen of any kind open, it will crash, at least thats what always happens to me. So there is my advice
Ive had this issue also. On my first world I never had any problems, but on my second world I can't enter the nether without having a friend get on my world and go in first. I've tried making a different portal, I tried waiting, I tried to go in via splitscreen, I tried online/offline games, I even tried deleting the game and re-installed it, nothing would work.
Then I had a friend try and go in, he went in fine and I was able to follow and do whatever I wanted. After a while I had collected the glowstone I was after, and decided to save before leaving, sure enough it froze when I tried to leave. I reloaded the save, made a chest by the portal, then killed myself. I was able to return to the nether, get my stuff and return without issues. I went back through a few minutes later to see if it would still let me and it did, but a few hours later when I tried again it was back to freezing. Having a friend join and escort me worked again tho. not sure if this will help anyone, but hopefully it will.

Originally I saved in the nether and couldn't get out. So I killed myself on purpose and re-spawned in the Overworld. Now, I am stuck in the overworld and am unable to get back to the nether. The xbox freezes right where you would normally go to the 'loading the nether' screen. I'm not looking for a workaround to get my stuff out of the nether- i just want it to work the way it should.
This does not occur for every user, We have yet to see this crash in our tests which make it extremely hard to pinpoint.
I must say I am both surprised and impressed that someone who actually works for 4J actually posted a direct response to my complaint- something I have not experienced on any other message board with any other game company. I've tried all the suggested fixes I've found on this and other message boards to no avail. What kind of surprises me is that games like this (which as so involved with the indie game/developer community) doesn't have a voluntary error-reporting system like Windows does for its OS. If the problem is that you can't replicate the error on your systems- you'd think that you'd at least want some kind of reporting system for people when their entire xbox crashes in the normal playing of the game.
So, once again I am surprised and impressed I actually got a response. Although I am still stuck in the overworld, with (it seems) no options but to throw away my current world (that must have at least 50 hours in it by now) if I ever want stuff from the nether.
My only other comment/question is could this be a hardware-related issue? I have one of the original white xboxes, and I wonder if that could be part of the problem. I hear the older models will often glitch more than the newer ones, regardless of the game. Although I will note that many of my friends with the newer boxes had the same glitch happening to them before the update- haven't checked with them since to see if its still happening to them. THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING! AAGGGHH!!
Perhaps someone from 4J can go online and enter my world with me, where they can see what happens every time I try to enter! Could that possibly help in any way 4JSteve?
They rushed the game didn't put anytime into it, Everyone got their fat pay checks and we the consumers got stuck with a problematic game simple as that.

Thanks for the advice. It helped killed myself and got home. I would have missed my dogs if I couldn't get home.
BUMP/ newly released update DID NOT fix the glitch, at least for me. CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DIDN'T FIX THIS IN THE FIRST UPDATE. I have a mind to ask for a refund for the game. Pathetic.
It's not exactly pathetic. They're working on a patch, be patient. It's not going to be flawless you know...

I don't see why a TV would affect whether or not the game freezes, Anyway I got lost in the Nether and was running around forever until eventually I found my portal. I went into it to find out that I would get to the screen where it says "Leaving the Nether" and the music would play for a little bit then my whole Xbox would freeze. I'm going to probably just put it on normal, find a way to kill myself and then run back and hopefully be able to get my items. Hopefully they soon find a way to fix this.
I need it easy but I had no idea 1 way is if your stuck you need two players have your friend kill you respawn you will be outside just don't sleep in the nether and while your friends in there destroy the 1 you entered leave them in there and after u destory the portal entrance and your friend will be in there have them cone thru and a new portal will spawn saves more trouble I will help just contact me on Xbox cod4uswagin
Did anyone ever figure this out? I finally found a netherfort made a portal where i could farm blazes. I went in and out once tried to go for more rods and now my stuff freezes when it says entering the nether. Music plays for about 10secs and the background doesnt move like it does when its loading. I apologize for bumping six month old thread, but its still an issue for me. It took me hours to find a suitable map with all biomes on it. Stronghold, nether fortress all of its on that seed.
Hi all, We now have minecraft on the xbox 360 slim, 4 GB HDD, when you try to go into the nether, it crashes/freezes the game and the system itself. my dad was playin on the system, he died in the nether, so i think he temporarily took it down, and then decided to rebuild it, and now when he tries to go into the nether again, it crashes
also another bug, he has a tamed dog, he cant command it to sit/stand anymore
theres all kinds of solutions that dont really seem to work from what i read so far. how soon can all of us xbox mc players expect this to be fixed, cause it is a major problem, it really hurfs the playability of the game.
Not wanting to complain, but still no fix for the crash-if-saved-in-nether bug after eight months?
Has this still been happening to you? Since TU7, I've saved my game while in the nether many times and I've had no issues with the game crashing or anything freezing up at all. (BTW, this is a resurrrection of a very, very old thread... and there was a new thread started just today on the same issue. Games freezing in the nether for no apparent reason has also been reported several times already on the TU7 bugs thread.)
I'm not sure if this has been attempted, but it might be a corrupt chunk in the nether that is causing the problem. To test this, build a new Nether portal in the overworld that is > 3 chunks away (> 48 blocks) from the original portal. Why 3 chunks? Because moving one block in the Nether is equivalent to moving 3 in the overworld.
Hopefully this will land you in a different Nether chunk and assuming it's a corruption issue, it might let you in.
Yes, same issue XBOX360 . We went to the Nether several times then it locked up. We usually play 1-3 players. The entire screen freezes and all functions lock, the only way to reset it is unplug the Xbox. I hope they fix this soon. We tried going in alone, then with 2, then 3 , it's locked completely now. It's very frustrating because we were looking forward to it, now we are completely shut out of the World.
