I have the gunpowder, but I haven't tried TNT yet. Sometimes on PC it doesn't make a sound when I use it. I think you were too far away to hear it. Possibly a 1.6.6 thing?

Could have been, once I get a few more pieces of gunpowder and stand a bit closer this time. It'd be really odd if it did not have a sound.
