Hello fellow Minecrafters! I'm new here but have been playing Minecraft on the PC since right after the Halloween Update of 2010. I know I will miss some of the features that have come since 1.6.6, but I played the demo on the 360 and have decided to "Jump In" and get this version too. I just like the way it "feels".
Anyway, I have actually come to LIKE the smaller world size for this version. It seems like it could give the game a bit more focus, and I wanted to share some creative ideas about how to use the smaller size in fun ways. For example;
- How about a completely enclosed world? Just wall up the sides and top of the whole map. It would be kind of strange to see a mountain with a roof of cobblestone over it.:P
- It seems like it would be easier to have "plots" of land that are of equal size. For instance, an 8 player world would have 8 squares of 512x256 each to work on.
- Themed worlds and other such projects might have more focus.
I guess that's the main advantage(For me, at least) of the small map size; focus. I like that I can start a new world, map the whole thing right at the start, and then see what I want to do with it. I also like that I can switch from offline and online on the fly, so I can get a world "ready" before inviting my friends in.
What do you guys think? Anyone else thought of any interesting projects they can do within the constraints of the map size?
My gamertag is the same as my name here- Jester375 if you'd like to add me. I'd love to see what people are doing in their own worlds. Thanks for the time, and happy minecrafting!
While that may be interesting it sounds like it would be a lot better placed as a mod. You can make this sort of thing in singleplayer o_o You can replicate all the things you stated in vanilla minecraft.
I don't see how any of these points benefit having a world size.
You can set borders or enclose a world on an infinitely generating world just as easily.
Of course you can. But, I don't have to take the time to bother trying to make a perfectly square 1024x1024 area to explore since I already have that taken care of. The beauty of being a minecraft junkie with both the PC and 360 versions is that if I want an infinite world, I can just play my PC version. Being able to see everything I can get to on my map is kind of cool in the 360 version, IMO. It makes it a bit different than the PC.
If you find it difficult to focus on a project in PC minecraft, you might have a bit of a problem; Minecraft is about projects and building and stuff...
I don't find it difficult to focus on projects on the PC. I find a DIFFERENT focus when having a small area that isn't infinite. I find myself thinking of different kinds of projects for each version due to the world size and other differences in the two versions.

Well, I could mod anything on the PC. Give myself thousands of diamonds, create a world that is already underground, etc. But, think about entering a friends world KNOWING they can't mod at all and seeing a fully enclosed world. That would be pretty impressive.:)

I really like your ideas. For me, PC Minecraft was great for building, but I prefered to explore caves and other cool places. With the world being much smaller, the game is different for me. I'm focusing on building a small village, and maybe even turn it into a city.

Thanks. I'm going to put outposts at the corners of my map. I'm trying to decide if I want to go nuts on a road system to connect Islands and stuff next.

My boyfriend is currently going nuts on making a road system. He's been having me mine gravel like there's no tomorrow. I think he wants to make huge bridges to all the islands as well. It's a lot of work but sounds like a great idea. What are you using to make outposts? Are they going to be like watch towers? I wish I could go and see it but I don't have a gold account.
Oh man! How about building a huge rainbow out of wool across the whole sky?! If you made it go high enough it would probably look really good and then a chest at either end with some cool things in it, like the pot of gold at the end.

Glad to see the enthusiasm. I appreciate the positive imput.:)
I'm not sure about how I will construct each corner yet. I have one corner of my map completely under ice, so I might make that outpost out of glass, and try a different "theme" for each corner. I'm also considering putting a few blocks of land to border the whole map for easy walking/minecarting. My map(Seed is Jester375 if you are curious) has a bunch of islands and one huge ice continentin the upper right corner. I'm enjoying dreaming up what i plan to do with it. God, I love Minecraft.
What I'm interested in, is how they are going to accomodate something like the jungle and swamp biomes as right now there simply isn't the space for them.
What I hope they do is add a new 1024x1024 map once you reach the wall that is there now, so no one will have to restart a new world when they update.
What if you made multiple worlds that were connected to each other? Such as, you spawn in one, have to find your way to the end(with puzzles and challenges along the way) , and then once the world is complete you load up the next one. Say you go through a doorway at the end of a world and when the next world loads up you come out of said doorway. I think this may have been mentioned or even done before but I'm not sure, new here and to the MC universe.

I know! It'd take a lonnnnggg time. Of course, in that world you'd need a helluva lot of torches to keep the baddies away.
An even more insane project would be to dig the whole world down to bedrock. Maybe wall the sides with glass..lol THAT would be nuts.

i thought it was about surviving.
me and some friends are working on it... so far we have about an 100 x 100 area cleared q.q
I thought it was about Mining AND Crafting, hence the name MineCraft.
Hunger Games style anyone?
Its a small contained area, you can still explore and survive, but it's only a matter of time before you run into another player...
We should TOTALLY do that! What's your Gamertag?
And you taking the time to post in an idiotic thread makes you....?
Hey, thanks for the info!
I guess. My main point is that this is what we have to work with for THIS version right now, so why not focus on how to use what we have in fun ways?
I know, but seeing some of the anger here..I don't think every one has the same perspective.:P
