I have a gold account and my son doesn't even have xbox live. We play split just fine. Though it is not online. Uncheck online until it's fixed if that's the issue.
thats not necessarily true. me and my sis play and she uses a profile on my xbox. just uncheck the online play box and any account (online or not) on that xbox can join. hope it helps!
