haven't seen anyone else mention this but I have this problem as well but the funny thing it it wasn't happening at first...
when I first downloaded minecraft just after 1 in the morning tuesday morning *I was able to get it early thanks to one of the mojang guys tweeting out code * it was working fine I would save and quit go back in and it was all good then later now after have gone to sleep and trying it out again in the afternoon I discovered that it was having this problem and nothing I did helped, anyway here's the thing I haven't seen posted yet, I noticed that even after deleting minecraft, the saves, clearing the system cache and even turning off the xbox and turning it back on afterwards, having redownloaded minecraft, got that quick little 3MB update *wtf's it for anyways?* the volume setting which I had lowed cause the game was way to loud was still set to what I had changed it to before deleting minecraft and all that, which I thought was rather odd cause I had expected it to reset back to full volume.
so maybe the fact that the game setting didn't revert back could help figure out what's causing this to happen/ has something to do with it?
I'm thinking it has something to do with the tutorial. None of my friends got very far in the tutorial and they aren't having this issue, but I completed it and it's happening to me.
i didn't touch the tutorial at all and it's happening to me so it's probably not caused by that.
Would like to see an update to this. Its a pain to even try to play the game when you cant save your character data. Being forced to dump your inventory in a box, then walk back from the spawn point every time you load is not a viable fix. I use a Gold Account, wont save character data, but my brothers silver account saves just fine.
It is listed as SEVERE (S-01) so i hope that means it is now at the TOP of the bug list.

Players have experienced issues with all items in their inventory not being saved after saving and leaving the world. Upon return, the world is saved as normal, but the items in inventory are gone. Players also noted that it will spawn them where they originally spawned at the start of the world, and not in the last bed they slept in. The only workaround I know of for now, would be to ALWAYS store your items in a chest before leaving the game if this is affecting you.

Earlier in the thread I posted that some have been saying changing your gamertag is a fix.
That is wrong. Don't waste ten dollars trying because it wont work. It is for sure due to your profile because I created another profile and used a two day gold pass I wasn't using, and the bug didn't happen. That's all I have for now.

I just lost all my diamond gear because of this glitch. It was ok at first when i didn't have anything important but now I'm kinda frustrated.
Ouch! Very sorry to hear that. Just wanted to add that, in addition to my inventory being cleared and loading up the game just to be put at spawn, I've also lost "ownership" of my wolf. Not sure if it's just a random bug or due to my playing online with a few friends, but I felt it needed to be shared.
i just hope the patch to fix this comes out soon and not when 1.7.3 comes out. i haven't played the game since this glitch started happening to me last week.
I'm glad I found this topic too. The exact same thing is happening to me: always respawn at world spawn even if I sleep in a bed, everything in personal inventory is lost but everything else in the world and stuff I put in chests gets saved. Only happens to me, not my buddy that I play with. I did do a little but of the tutorial, not sure if that has anything to do with it (my buddy did not do the tutorial).
I saw 4J responded near the beginning of this thread. Is he still around? Can we just get a confirmation from 4J that this is a legit problem and they're working on it? That'd make me feel a lot better.

wondering the same thing. i haven't played this in a few days now because i would rather just wait for a fix...
