Try saving and exiting. Had a problem where the game said i was disconnected (only playing sp) and I could not mine anything. I saved and restarted the game and it worked just fine.
What he's talking about: he places a block of water from his bucket, it appears for an instant, and then vanishes. He's left with an empty bucket. I've had it 4-5 times.
Had this happen a few times. It seems to be COMPLETELY random, I've gone and refilled my bucket at the infinite water source and put it at the exact same block it just vanished from and it worked fine.
All I can say, if you're gonna be working with water get some infinite spawners.
Also, when your block "Vanishes", it seems other players on the server can see the block there, but it won't flow. If anyone knows what causes this, I'd love some info

There are no ranks in multiplayer. Everyone can do everything.
I've had the glitch too a few times. It's very annoying. I recommend getting at least 2 or 3 buckets of water to make sure you get at least 3 tries at it.

I had this problem too, at least on my system, if i place the liquid water or lava on dirt, and not next to smooth or cobblestone then it will let me, but for some reason it wont place on any kind of stone for me.
Oh I've had a problem similar to this just with regular blocks, I would place them and they would just disappear. I would have to lay down several blocks in order for it to stay
when i place the water out of buckets and it is there for a second and then goesaway
