It's just a real bummer to me that worlds are only 1000x1000. It's really nothing compared to how big the PC can be. I was just wondering, is it even possible for the Xbox to have infinite worlds? Like how big would the world have to be before it crashed your Xbox.
I just get the feeling the Xbox could handle it, but it would be to hard to program.
They wouldn't be able to handle infinite worlds, but they would be able to handle quite big worlds.
I'd just give the devs a little more time, now that they don't have to try and rush anything, I'm sure they will be able to make them much larger than they currently are.
As long as the world only loaded in stages, and the various "active zones" were the only parts actually loaded into memory, it should still be o.k. on the Xbox 360. It might not have the same wide field of view that we are accustomed to on the PC, but it should still work, even with a short viewable area.
It has little to do with RAM. The PC version doesn't run the whole wide world at once, it streams it from the hard drive, at least that's my understanding. Things get a little more complicated with multiplayer, but I can still imagine the 360 being able to run a bigger world then 1024x1024 blocks, even with the full 8 players.
That said, it is basically running an 8 player server on a single 360, but even so. For example, I took all my saved worlds on the PC version, and they were well under 100MBs total, and even with only 512MBs of RAM, it should still be able to work! Heck, isn't it already doing that?
If there HAS to be a limit, I hope they make it something far more playable. A world with 1024x1024 CHUNKS leaves TONS of playing space, and most people will never even explore the whole thing. Sadly, I don't know how big that would be... to a chunk generator!!!!

i'm pretty sure that 4J is just releasing it with the limited world right now so they can test the generation to the fullest in the background

Still a credit to your ruse, what a beautiful excuse, To never open up your eyes and see the things you lose,
Just climb the beanstalk when you die and meet the giant in the sky.

Really depends on the RAM in that computer. If I remember correctly, the 360 only has about 512MB of RAM.

I sincerely hope that's the case...
But it's impossible to avoid lag fully. There are too many variables. The players home network, their internet connection speed, interference, etc.
hahahahahaha
I hope it is simply a case of "we won't start to big so that it won't crash and get laggy".
