The portal solutions seems the most elegant to me; however, I can think of several issues they would need to solve. (Here's hoping 4JSteve reads these forums.
Would there only be ONE spot on the edge of the map where you would warp to the next world over, or could they set the entire world's edge to portal status?
How would setting the entire edge to portal status impact builds (or extending pistons) that went past the edge?
Would it apply to all Y -128 to +128?
How would seeds be handled?
What would happen if you used an extreme seed with limited biome types (i.e. my seed has zero snow), could the portal code invoke the new world dialogue and allow the input of a different seed or are you stuck?
Additionally, has anyone ever tried tunnelling to the edge of the world and seeing what happens there? I know what it looks like at the edge above ground. You can actually see the row of blocks where the world ends on my map because the ocean floor dives below that point. I was wondering about what visual effects you would get if you made a minecart run that slamed you to the world's edge and how this might interact if they did make world's edge a portal to another map.
I didn't go through all 10 pages, I'm sure this has been mentioned: the actual world size is 864x864 (54 16-block chunks). This is pretty easy to verify using the coordinates on the map.

Yes, I've hit the edge of the world underground. It appears as a solid rock wall, and (like at ocean level), you can't place or break any blocks.
I think the world size is big enough, but I would like infinite blocks because when new updates come out i want to be able to generate the new things in those updates.
I'd be happy with a map that fits all of the biomes. The glacier seed on Xbox is cool but is a dessert and normal biome world. I love my world but there's no snow biome which I would like to have for snow balls and those dark trees. The world size can also be increased too because if you look at GTA or those kind of games there extremely large and take a long time to walk across. I would be willing to lose 25% render distance for an increase on world size.

dude dousnt even have apples in xbox OF COURSE the world is small there doing updates one by one THEY DONT EVEN HAVE ENDERMEN come on really they dont even have creative too there never going to update it all the way to pc dont you get it they want people to get the pc one because its better. don't you get it guys I mean come on! people do this all the time!
I don't believe that there's any hardware limitations restricting use from having larger worlds, it's a Microsoft imposed limit. If they could be convinced to allow any file size, then I'd love to have larger worlds. If they can't, we should be able to travel save file to save file.
Still a hell of a lot more smooth than Pc version.
It depends on the computer you have. My laptop runs Minecraft at around 150 fps consistently which is more than double how fast the Xbox runs (either 30 or 60 fps)

The difference between GTA and Minecraft is that everything in the game is interactive. You can change everything in the world. That's more taxing on a console than you might think.
If you are going to declare stuff lies make sure you know what you are responding to, the second thing you replied to was in reference to strongholds and abandoned mineshafts which ARE coming in the next update and so it is clearly not lies
They came in the PC update, that dosnt mean they are coming to the XBLA version in the next update as well. Please show me an official source that actually says strongholds and mineshafts are going to be in the next update. People are just presuming they will be, that dosnt make it fact.
It's getting a bit stupid now, you have people coming on here claiming that things are going to be different because it's 'Minecraft XBox 360', and yet the same people are coming on here expecting the game to have everything the pc version has and more.
Have 4J actually posted any information about strongholds? any pictures? any tweets about them? I dont think they have, until 4J actually start posting information about such things you shouldnt just expect them to be in the game just because the PC version had them in the same update.
We have been told that what changes in the updates is anything brought forward from any in the future still, so the only thing we know from 1.8 that wont be in our 1.8 is the lightning changes as we already have them.

I don't see why it wouldn't be safe to assume they will be added. They were in the 1.8 update, we are getting the 1.8.2 update, we will be getting the stuff from the update. Not to mention they are also looking at bringing stuff forward. Seems pointless to be looking to do that if they haven't even gotten everything from 1.8.2 ready. Twitter isn't working for me, so I can't see if there is a better tweet, but here is one thing they said about 1.8.2: https://twitter.com/4JStudios/status/226975738161664000
All I want is to make another base really, really far away from my original houses, and then connect them by rail. This is impossible on 360. I hardly ever even play now that my first two houses are finished and connected!
OK This is a no brainer! Yeah who's not pissed about the size of the minecraft xbox 360 verison map whatever the block count is. And for all those who who think the xbox cant handle the massive map sizes like the PC.....Well it can, lets look at some already existing games on the XBLA marketplace. Two examples CastleMiner and CastleMiner Z, they render worlds that are equal to sizes of the minecraft version on PC if not more. I dont know about some of you but I personally have travled a long time in one of those maps in castleminer and have not reached a wall. So to say that the xbaox cant handle it is complet BS, and to say because its and XBLA game so Microsoft is limiting the size of the game thats BS too, the game file size is 114mb which is ruffly they same size as the PC version so there is no limit issue like some of you have said. now yes the game for PC requires that you have at least 2gb of ram when the Xbox 360 has only 500mb of ram that only means it can render a limited field of viewing. So yes they can make the map bigger for the 360 version, so no one here want to hear any excusis about why it cant. beside if there going to add all the same update from the PC version on the 360 then the map is going to have to be bigger otehrwise all the biomes, dungeons, etc. will all be to close leaving no room to build in the world. so come on Mojang lets get with the program and make my world larger, and while you at it make it to where I wouldn't have to start a new world every time theres a new update too PLEASE!

There are many people who are happy with the size of the worlds. Castleminer is an Indie game. Minecraft is an XBLA game. Different cert processes, different rules. You are completely wrong about the file sizes for the PC version. I know of plenty of worlds people play on that are many Gigabytes in size. That is a lot bigger than 114 MB. Microsoft DOES have limits on file sizes. That is a fact.

To me the world size is very important. Like I say on other topics about world size, enlarging the maps/worlds is the number one thing I want to see in MC 360. I'm an explorer and having a ginormous world to walk around in and to craft a boat and sail away on an ocean would be heaven. I love MC for xbox and I'm so happy they ported it and we are very lucky but the world size as it is now is a huge downer for me and I find myself getting bored and aggravated when running into invisible walls. This statement is just my opinion and I know some people are fine w/the world size the way it is and I know there are many more who feel the same way I do but no one can deny how awesome it would be if 4J stuck by their twitter statement about working on increasing world size and then actually implementing it.

Mojang doesn't work on this game. 4J does.
What you forget to realize is that they are gigs in size but that does not mean they need gigs of ram to render, hard space and ram are completely different. Also, the amount of money they are making would increase the likely hood that microsoft would make exceptions, and another thing if castleminer has an infinite world, then why would they allow the massive worlds on their but not on an official game?
