The map size being increased to almost infinite is highly unlikely at this current time. but for the present, a more logical size would be 4-9 maps. it would give us more desire to explore and not stay close to our spawn. ya never know what you might find out there. The only request i have is expand the size of the map when Jungle biomes are added.
I want a bigger map because Ive build many things and when I look at my world its small. I would like it if they added more land so I can explore more and build more of my stuff. When I start a new world I dont bother going away from my spawn point cuse theres not really anything to explore out there.
FOR GODS SAKE MAKE THE WORLD BIGGER LIKE INFINITE PLSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That issue is still RAM based since RAM is where all of the currently loaded chunks are held. As for the C#, my bad.
so let me get this straight on a small map the game can load 8 players chunks as it were... on a large map where you still have 8 players it somehow cant load 8 players chunks anymore ?!! Erm why ?
Before Minecraft Xbox 360 edition I had never played Minecraft. Since then I did actually purchase the PC game and I enjoy it too, however I mostly still play on the Xbox to play with friends.
The size of the map truly does make a big difference depending on the style of game play.
If you play on Easy difficulty or higher with monsters I think the map size is just fine really.
However in peaceful mode the idea is to explore, collect, farm, and build without being bothered, the map size is small.
I would definitely like to see the map size larger specially when they release Creative mode on the Xbox. I agree that the infinite map size is probably not going to happen on the Xbox although it would be cool as long as it did not hinder the game play quality.
Several other people here have mentioned the idea to choose the map size and I think that's a great idea! My biggest concern is a change in map size which effects the gameplay quality on live or offline.
I believe that instead of the locked size that most of you are going for at 16 chunks or infinite, you should be able to pick the size of the map when you start a world. When you pick a larger world size it will come up with a warning telling you that it may cause lag and slowdown.
Many times on Xbox I start a map and the whole thing or almost whole thing is one entire Biome. I'm currently on a map that's about 80% snow, 15% Grass Hills, and 5% Everything else. It would really solve things if the Map was much bigger than 1 map big. If it really wouldn't cause game lag, they should make it larger than 16 maps, but if that's too much lag, then they should increase to what ever wouldn't lag it.
I was playing with my friends yesterday. We are in the UK and Canada. 1 person was digging/mining 1 person was making a building 1 was collecting materials and 1 started to explore the map. The game became very laggy but fixed itself when we were all close together. I suspect this is the issue they are trying to resolve. That said, it has nothing to do with the size of the map. Map size issues are simply we lack resources/block. Key blocks are missing, my world has no cactus, ive been to worlds with no snow. Introducing more types of blocks (cats, biomes, npcs etc) isnt going to fix this issue, I can only see it getting worst increasing the map size gives opportunities for increasing space for these blocks to be generated. And yes I like exploring too.

I was gonna say, if you have that issue on this map then you will still be far enough to have to load a separate area each on a bigger map too so it seems a bit, meh as a reason if thats all it is.
I simply don't understand why bigger maps are an issue. I can walk 5 minutes across my Minecraft map. I can walk more than 5 minutes across a Battlefield 3 map with 24 players blowing holes in walls. Granted, EA uses dedicated servers, but what exactly is stopping 4J when it comes to making single player maps larger? If they can discover what's wrong with Multiplayer (because random disconnects are still frequent) I'm sure they could up the Multiplayer map size too.
For other explorers out there, like me, it would be best if it could be doubled. Honestly, we are given enough to start out with but not enough to live with. It is just upsetting to settle into what you think is a cool world, and then running out of space and starting a new world since the old one was useless.
How big? As big as they can get it. I have a huge HDD--let me fill it with maps if I want.
If bigger maps cause lag or FPS drops, fine--tell me and let me choose.
MC fills the OCD need for me--but thinking about limited resources makes my desire to explore and create kinda dissipate. If they're not going to have infinite (or much larger) worlds, then either
put in the ability to let us create "portals" to other world seeds, or
make resources somehow "regrow", maybe in the bedrock level, or near the edges, or something.
bottom line is maps like battlefield 3 are on a cd Minecraft is an ARCADE game unlike any other game you want to compare it to ...file sizes and world sizes are limited in arcade versions
Maybe if they didnt have an end to the map you just pop up on the other side like if the world was round sort of thing ppl wouldnt really complain lmao

Games like Battlefield 3 release maps that are downloadable. Yeah, they borrow off of resources that are already on the disc, but still.
And explain how mother effing INDIE GAMES have bigger worlds than Xbox LIVE Arcade's fastest selling game ever?
I'm okay with the world size, but I have basically explored my whole world. That means, if melons, strongholds, abandoned mineshafts, ect. come out, I'm screwed because I won't be able to get those things since there are no more chunks that need to be discovered.
They need to just add portals to new parts meaning like the nether make different maps added to the world that would help and don't give me it can't be done that's bs talk and they could expand the map though hope it's not cause the lawsuit big money might be lost.
Normally I'd say, "the bigger, the better." But for the Xbox360, I think that 128 x 128 chunks (i.e. four maps) is a good compromise between feasibility when keeping the Xbox360's rather limited performance in mind (compared to an average PC) on one hand, and freedom of playing, diversity in terrain, etc. on the other.
Also, and I don't know if that's been mentioned yet, the world size in MC360 doesn't appear to be 1024 x 1024 blocks. The X and Z coordinates displayed on the map range only from 420 to -420, so the actual world size appears to be 841 x 841 blocks only.
I'm more worried about the amount of sand... not diamonds. Even if I do get a desert seed there still may not be enough. Well mabye there would be if the entire 1000x1000 was sand for a couple of levels down.

To be honest, i would be happy with a world 2x bigger than now, but 3-4x would be superb. I also wouldnt be against a portal that leads to another map if that would be possible.
