exactly my problem. if there was decency to give us official word then i wouldnt be angry, but now it makes me think the limit is there to stay , permantly, and thats why they wont give us the answers, because all it gonna do is put people off buying it, like me.
well i cant buy it now, not till i know the official answers. and funny thing is, i would still buy the game right now if they just gave official word on the size not being increased. but reason im not buying it now is because of the principle that it seems like they are pourposely hiding information from us for the reasons of sales, and maybe i was actually stupid enough to think mojang wasnt a company that was all about the money .
man, i totally agree with you. any great company, even mojang, can be corrupted by money. before you know it, theyll sell minecraft to Zynga (which i believe is the vampire of all gaming companys) and monetize the game so much, you have to pay them money to get something as simple as a crafting table. sad what happens to companys nowadays
Don't you think there's a reason why they limited the maps to that size? The 360 has very limited system resources and MS place a lot of restrictions on file sizes.
The point is, don't expect the maps to get bigger, ever. MCX360 isn't supposed to be as good as the main game; that's why it's an XBLA game and is cheaper than the pc version.
the xbox CAN handle larger maps. Skyrim is a perfect example because the world goes so in depth and is quite a bit larger than most of my own Minecraft worlds.
Also Minecraft costs €19.95 (~£17.21/~$26.90) for a computer and only $20 for Xbox so it costs less
Hey, before the first Offical Release of Minectraft for PC, you were limited to a 64x64x64 world. So shut up! It gets better.
Let me make that clear. I'm sorry, I don't expect this to happen soon, but eventually this is something I would like to see. Like around winter. Also keep in mind though that minecraft has had help to make it compatible for Xbox and so far I think that it runs better than minecraft for a computer. there probably are a lot of glitches I don't know about yet though because it is a new game for Xbox cause it came out this morning.

People hating on xbox edition already? What a shame.. i'd be fine with 500x500 ffs, why would you need to go farther
I personally might not. But if I would be running an MP server (as is intended) and if you can gain the ability in the future to connect to PC servers (which was hinted at) then the map size would be far to small. 500x500 is the size of my current project. The castle village I'm creating would effectively occupy half the space of the existing map which is a little painful.
And on that, our current PC server has about 4 projects under way of equal or greater size.
I'm good with it so far...but any increase would be welcome! The fact that seeds work is pretty cool though.
Also, there is another thread where the Devs have answered some questions via Twitter. Specifically thy addressed the question about "invisible walls". While they avoided saying they WILL make maps bigger, they did acknowledge that it is a concern and said they are looking into ways to improve it as the updates go on.

No, that is a weak comparison. Neither of the two are rendered and built in the same way..

I wasn't saying that they were, but Minecraft writes to a static file and is loading the world. The Skyrim is final and the world doesn't change for the most part. I was simply saying that it shouldn't take much more effort to load Minecraft with a larger map than Skyrim. The only part that matters is that they are loading and rendering a world. I was not being clear.
I'm more worried about the amount of sand... not diamonds. Even if I do get a desert seed there still may not be enough. Well mabye there would be if the entire 1000x1000 was sand for a couple of levels down.
to be honest im just dissapointed already in the way mojang have handled things.. no answers at all,
no offence but right now the world size makes u question the price it really does. wheres the deceny to even give us answers from the guys working behind the game? all we want to know is whether the limit will be increased in future, but we dont even get our questions ackowleged. i think thats rude actually and makes me glad i didnt actually buy the game yet,
i dont doubt that minecraft is a very fun game but i cant spend $20 on it if the current limit is gonna stay that way for good, because in time that limit will ruin the gameplay for the majority of players because its basically putting an end to the games never-eneding factor
to all you people who love this game, just think about the long term. ur empires all coming together, things are going great, then blam, the end of the map hits you, you've used all your resources, and thats it. its over. what a great way to encourage us to keep on playing huh. answers from the guys behind the game would make anyone happy, so why cant they end all this speculation and give us some? all i want to know is some official word whether the limit is getting increased in the future and lets be honest, if its meant to be catching up with the PC version eventually, the only way that can even BE possible if the limit IS increased...
I could not have put it any better and this is an amazing description of why i think this is a problem. thank you
I did clarify this in a previous post, but I'll say again so it's clear.
Comparing Minecraft worlds to those in other games is not accurate because of the way the worlds are built. Minecraft is built from blocks, so a mountain in Minecraft if a huge pile of blocks. In other games that same mountain would just be a mountain texture wrapped around empty space. Even so, I agree that the 360 could probably handle a bit more than it is being asked to with MCX360. The main problem is most likely the restrictions that MS puts on the size of files, especially for XBLA stuff, as HDDs are not standard on 360 and so they have to account for some people not having them. If I remember correctly, the arcade package of the 360 doesn't come with an HDD.
Also, just to reiterate to people who havn't realised this; MCX360 is an Arcade title. It's not supposed to be as full-featured as the main game; that's why it's cheaper.
I'm not saying your wrong but look at it like this, the version of Minecraft for the PC only cost a little bit more than the version for Xbox, yet the PC version has infinite generation. The files for a Minecraft world aren't exactly big, and having traveled a world thoroughly(about 10-12 maps)the file is only about 50-150 MB which isn't really that much.
If someone wanted a new area then where would it be? They would not ever be able to find a snow biome if they didn't start in one. Having such limitations would take away the granduer of Minecraft, how many vetrans that moved to a new base would like it if it was still in viewing distance of their old one. Plus, if the game is supposed to be catching up how easy is it going to be to find the strongholds? Also, even if there are that many diamonds in the world who is going to be able to find all of them. If people really want "Minecraft" then the world size has to be increased. I know that I for one was sad when I hit the edge, I lost some of my hope.

The redstone is coming, you just have to find it now. Redstone Glory
The logic in this argument is peeving me off a little bit when it is a fact that I have Quake 4 downloaded from the marketplace...
Most consoles are shipped with HDD's. There is no need to appeal to an audience which does not have the sufficient system requirements to run more or less 99% of the Xbox Live Marketplace content these days: and the argument that 'they have to limit how big the files are' is fallacious in itself when content on the marketplace arcade reaches over 1.29GB in some cases.
I might just ask citricsquid what the deal is and post on here... There is no reason why the map size must be limited too 1000x1000 blocks. Perhaps it cannot be infinite as is the minecraft world, granted, and the reason for that may be that the Xbox probably does not allow the system to consistently write to a save game file that it is using (though it might do, I don't know).
I think that the difference is that with minecraft each world is treated like a save file rather than the game's files.

4JStudios and Mojang have ignored to answer this including to gaming press, believe me i know. They know if they answer there wont be bigger worlds sales will get hurt. Right now it's impossible to get a straight answer for this reason mainly, money moves the world.
Guys, it can't have anything to do with memory. I'm about 99.9% sure they could and/or will increase the map size. The reasoning? Castle miner and Fortresscraft on Xbox have infinitely spawning worlds and they are indie games. I'm sure Minecraft can handle this and obviously the Xbox could handle it. I'm sure it will be updated to infinite worlds and if not, at least larger worlds.

you going on the front. I didn't know that, thank you.
some of the people here talk about xbox as if its a freaking ps2... when u look at the sizes of maps in games like battlefield 3, and even modern warfare 3, u will see that the xbox is capable of much larger areas. the xbox has more than enough space to have larger world space , and maybe some of the guys working at mojang should let us know why the limit is there and if its gonna be changed in future....
I think the reason is mainly it being arcade size, I'm sure if they released the game as a xbox disc it could most likely handle a world in the millions, just like the game you mention that also is on a disc and not arcade. I would actually buy a disc version just for larger worlds, even for like thirty bucks as long as it could have world size around 500,000 or greater. I only say this because skyrim is huge with so much going on, you would hope something like minecraft would be no problem if it were on disc.

For now yes, but considering the game was $20 i assume that you will want it to be bigger right?

Sadly yes.
Grow up and learn to take a critic, games and communities needs them to grow.
