When you guys go into your memory for minecraft for xbox it says the maps are from 10 to maybe 30 megabytes a piece I've only had up to about 25 so if the xbox has about 500 megabytes of RAM then it could definitely handle more than just 1000:1000 Its most likely just them not making the maps bigger due to time constraints...
So... You have included the game file size... the size of the Minecraft program itself, the OS for the XBox360, as well as the 3d Graphics processing, MOB pathing, collisions, redstone/block updates in addition to processing user inputs for yourself and several other players between splitscreen and online included in your estimates as to how much memory has to be resident on the 360 in order to run Minecraft?
There is a LOT more going on in the running of a program than just the save file in use...
Wow this is an old thread. Anyway, I would love infinite maps, but I am also perfectly happy with the current size. I don't think I have quite outgrown any of my maps yet, but I tend to play survival. I have never had a shortage of ANY resource and never run out of space. As I said though, I would like a bigger/infinite map just to be able to go off wandering. I assume next gen MC will have 'infinite' map size but I can live without it. This is the best value for money game i've ever had, and as Up_Up says, i've had my moneys worth.
Im not sure if anybody is aware of this, but a map is 54 North, East Chunks, and 54 SOuth, West chunks making the map exactly 864x864 Not 1000x1000
I'm not sure if everyone is aware of this... but the game still has to load and render out to an 8 chunk radius surrounding the chunk the player is in, which exceeds the 1000x1000 blockspace for loading and processing purposes. 864x864 is just the space you can move inside of.
Wow, this is an old thread.
The 360/ps3 worlds are plenty big enough, IMHO. I doubt they'll get any bigger.
On the slim chance they do, we'll gripe about the lag- or gripe that there was other things 'more important' they could've added instead.
For those who just have to have bigger worlds, there's always the One/ps4 versions coming out shortly (but we'll probably gripe about that size too).
This thread is so old, but i think they should increase it to 1264 Block in direction because if you don't notice,There is still water After the 864th block placement and i'm pretty sure they mention its 400 blocks the unused section took,so i rather use up that place and at the end of the world put a huge white wall that the PE has.
also i actually ran out of diamonds because i mine the whole world up to y 32 so...
I was on a friends map yesterday which was a good example of the map being too small when doing large scale creative. His map is essentially a huge cathedral which has developed outwards into various areas such as heaven, hell, underground city, modern city, harbour, etc etc. I asked if I could do a little wild west area on his map which he was happy for me to do. I found a small patch of desert but he has used that much of the map that there are very few 'remote' areas left and so my wild west town will be right next to his jungle tree village on one side and a city wall on the other! So, whilst I am quite happy playing survival on the current size maps, I think larger maps would really benefit the big creative builders but I wouldn't expect (or even want, due to lag issues) anything larger than we currently have on xbox 360.
I think it's a good size for what the Xbox can handle. I would like the world to be bigger but that's probably the Biggest it's gonna get for the 360. The Xbox One version will have a bigger world though so that will be cool
* I've been playing the PC version more than the xbox version lately (straight, with no mods), and not because of the world size. I hated that keyboard control and converted mine to controller control like the 360. Yea, no more *$&%^ WASD keys! (Which reminds me- we have auto-jump-down, why can't we have auto-jump-up like the PE has?)
* The 'infinite' worlds aren't all they're cracked up to be. I went too far and got lost from my base. Could not find it. So I wandered around and found a new spot, built up another base, and this time planted some beacons in all directions to lead me back home. Darned if I didn't wander too far again. (Of course, I realize now I should've just F3 and wrote down the home base coordinates), but I was so frustrated I just started a new world. This time I built my base very near the spawn point. Now I can use the Compass to get me home no matter where or how far I wander. Beats trying to use 'maps' or beacons. The point I'm trying to make is 'infinite' was too big, and pointless. (BTW, the only reason to wander around an 'infinite' world is to gawk at the scenery).
* I hate the fact that you can switch game modes. However, they added it anyway. Since I have no willpower, personally I would never spend 2 years working on cleaning out a world- I'll take 2 minutes, change modes, and get all of everything I need.
* I also would never attempt a huge sprawling mega build when I know the world is a fixed size. If I wanted to do that (on only one map), I'd also build up and down, not just out.
* The 360 world is huge.... for virtually everybody. There's always that 1% that say it's too small or they ran out of resources. For those that just have to have a larger world, play the PC version or wait for the One version.
To me getting lost is kind of a good thing. It makes it more challenging if you go into a cave and come out somewhere completely lost. If 4j studios wants to, they could just let people choose their own world size. I would play minecraft on pc but my laptop can only handle short render distance even with optifine. Definitely looking forward to the xbox one edition, wouldn't think twice about buying it!
In addition, I prefer caving for resources, not strip-mining since I've found virtually every cave on the map (I like to play on only one world). More exploration the better, minecraft isn't all about building to me.

... and you probably would find that choosing a larger world on the Xbox 360 (if it was made available) would result in too much lag anyway.,, and then you'd be complaining about that. Why put in an option that won't run well on the system resources available. You don't play on your PC... and don't you think there is a reason your PC can't handle it well... and your PC is probably more powerful than the 360 is. The Xbox One will have a larger world, so really isn't it about time this topic for the 360 was permanently put to bed?

Hmmm true say. Yeah, I guess I didn't make it clear that I know larger 360 worlds is highly unlikely. I don't even play on the 360 anymore, and therefore rarely play minecraft unless I'm with some friends on PC. I am fully aware that even one mob too many results in lag, and when my world had 50 some odd villagers, it was unplayable. Not complaining about 360 worlds, was more of posting my opinion to the poster above me who was talking about how larger worlds aren't really necessary in his opinion. I was simply disagreeing and put in why larger worlds are a must for minecraft... on next-gen consoles, for me.
This has probably already been discussed, but I don't see why the xbox360 is limited as to why it can't provide an infinite world (or virtually infinite world on the pc it has been tested 16 million blocks is the actual limit) but nonetheless since the map is loaded in chunks, and these can be stored in memory, if this game allowed for installation on the hard drive, you could definitely increase the map size. By how much, I don't know, but I'm sure it could be done.
As for the haters, there are pros and cons to the big world:
Big world - great space, you will never run out of resources; cons-> possible lag, can be intimidating for beginners
Limited World - still great space, no lag, good for beginners, cons-> veterans may feel constricted, none of the "awesome" feeling of a virtual infinite world, may run out of resources if building extremely complex and huge projects (in which case creative mode would be ideal).
I'm super tired, just played a small session but need to do some work before I mine for hours, lol, been thinking of switching to pc, am excited about the new title update coming out for both minecraft and terraria (and please let's not start on that one! ) peace!

Just you wait until you get a world without cactus.
Or pine trees, or jungle trees, or a Mooshroom Island....
I myself am fine with the size. It adds a challenge of finding a world with everything in it, whereas you know that somewhere there will be a Mesa or a Mooshroom or the like out there on the PC.
Just you wait until you get a world without cactus.
If you don't have ________, or 'think' you ran out of ______, then you have 3 choices:
1- Make do without it. As they say, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Accept the challenge, use your creativity.
2- Start another world. (Warning: maybe that one will have everything you need... but it might be missing something else. See #1.)
3- Go into creative.
Make a decision- but I don't see griping about having to make a decision.

For me, this is exactly the reason I'd like a slightly larger world size, or linking worlds together.
I would like a much better chance to randomly find a world with every Biome in it, it is incredibly hard to do as it is now, and with the Java 1.7 on the horizon doubling the amount of Biomes, this will become exponentially harder with the current world size.
However, I challenge the veracity of Geneo's statistic where he claims that only 1% say that the world is too small. I'm wondering what the source is or how he came to this conclusion as it seems grossly off the mark to me.

Sandstone, and the new blocks that will be coming out Smooth Sand 4=1 sandstone 4=1 Smooth stone
I already ran out of Diamonds and Iron in my world (YES FULLY CLEARD OUT the materials) it took 2 years but did it lol.

Smile. We could have PE-size worlds!
