I know that this is an old post, but I just had to point out (snip)
First, they can't put a limit on how many save files any one game can have. If they could, then my one friend wouldn't have been able to fill up his old 20GB hard drive with Halo: Reach maps (downloaded and self-made). This is the only thing he has on that hard drive.
Second, I think that most people would be able to easily handle maps that are even as large as 9x the size they are now (3 full maps by 3 full maps or 3072x3072 blocks)
Coincidentally, I spoke with a friend who is a programmer and who has played Minecraft on the PC since it was an Alpha. He feels the major difference is that XBox allows the autosave to be turned off, which means that the system may not be able to oversave the file and dump chunks from memory until the player decides to tell it to. Personally, I prefer to have the ability to limit damage done by griefers by being able to exit the world and kick everyone without saving their handiwork. I suspect that someday, 4J will enlarge the world by a bit; but I hope it is not at the expense of being able to turn off the autosave.
My friend also said that the "infinite worlds" on the PC have their drawbacks. For example, the player might have to carry many multiple maps and walk for long periods of time to get from one built up element to another unless connected nether portals and/or massive rail systems are properly set up to transport players around the world. He himself has lost interest in the game recently since it no longer really felt like groups playing together since there were single players and small groups of 2 scattered all over the world essentially just doing their own thing.
I also like that the XBox is a different experience from the PC.
Personally I would like the maps to be bigger, because I get tired of running out of space on the big builds I like to do, I mean X by X By X is good for now but I would prefer it to be the same size as the pc maps. I mean we all have some sort of Hardrive on our 360's so why not use the space on them for bigger maps??
Come on people.
The minimum PC system requirements is 2 gigs of memory. Xbox has 1/4 that. (And 90mb needed for the game core and sound files).
Recommended is 4 gigs ram.
If they manage to squeak out a larger world for us in the future- great.
If not, deal with it.

Minecraft on PC runs using Java, which takes more RAM than it would need if it was in another programming language. Look at a game like Portal 2. It would use the same coding language on PC, Xbox, or PS3. My Xbox runs it perfectly fine with absolutely no problems. My computer on the other hand, can barely play it on exactly the same settings.
i think that it should be like a bar in the top right that tells you how much space you have left.
If they do implement this then i would think and hope that they will make the maps infinite. is how happy i would be if this happened.also i want to say i think that the worlds are small and it would be easier to find a specific biome other than always putting in a seed.
Honestly, I have no problems with them. How often do you see maps that are completely filled with builds? NEVER. So why would you need more space? Perhaps for new terrains. They could easily make no changes, or make the current terrains smaller in order to add more. Infinite maps are nice I guess, but why have infinte if you only use a portion.

you comparing two different games. and you know why portal 2 running on youre console fine and not on pc? because the developers optimized it.
The "average" city block is 6.4 acres.
If each MC block is "about" 1 yard square, then we're talking about a world 154 acres OR roughly 241 city blocks.
(Please, don't get anal on me).
I can't believe anybody's build takes up 241 city blocks. They couldn't fill it (basically repaving the whole map) in the time since it's been out. And that's just horizontal- we haven't discussed any building 'up', or 'down'.
The xbox world is plenty big enough for anything you want to build. Other than having the ability to wander around and gawk at the scenery, there's no reason to have a bigger world.
I started a thread yesterday about a workaround if bigger worlds fails to be realized. My workaround revolves around un-exploring parts of the map to generate new terrain/structures in it. Feel free to take a look at http://www.minecraft...nt-to-generate/
How ever, bigger worlds would be awesome!
Have you answered the question yet that was posted on your thread (by someone else) about how this "workaround" would demand complete reprogramming of the terrain generation in the game. Unless you can program it yourself, it's not really a viable workaround is it? it's just another demand on 4J to customize the game to your liking.
The reality is that they've built the game with a finite world of a specific size; which is adequately large if what you want to do is actually play the game. Also, if you actually want to play the game with all the new features, then ALL you'll have to do is "Create New World" - a one button fix already programmed into the game... or if you want to build the new looking features yourself into a world where you've already built a bunch of stuff anyway, Creative Mode would enable you to do that. I presume that if you can build a scale mode of a Mayan temple, you can make a reasonable replica of an NPC village, a stronghold library, or a mineshaft? - particularly if you can fly and have unlimited resources at your disposal.
The problem here is that there seem to be a bunch of people who don't seem to want to play the game. They seem to want to primarily complain about the game and, now it seems, just promote their own posting activity on other threads in the forum.
For me the size is good. Bigger would be better, but that's not important for me...
What could be really AWESOME, and i'm not the only i think, is to have the 256 height instead of the 128 only we have now. I think it will come with the 1.2.3 update... but it would be awesome if 4JStudios could make it in the update before that. For all skyscrappers lovers
My friend and me started a world, did the normal things to get started, and started to explore we found DIMONDS!!!!!!ONLY FRIKIEN PROBLEM IS THAT IT WAS AT THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry if this has been said but my main problem is if I start a world now and travel to all of it. I'm done. You won't get any of the new things when they come, no witch huts, no new ores, if they add that, no mushroom biomes. You get the point. If the world is infinite you can build a minecart track to new places and see new things. But you can't do this in limited worldsI have a world started right when it came out for Xbox. Now I don't have ravines, strongholds, or villages

I don't intend to be mean but, BFD, start a new world. Because I know that I get extremely bored of my maps and decide to start a new map. Or, I will make a new one when the update comes out. But, if you do have a HUGE fortress or something, I can understand that.

Aw come on... the main problem is you want it ALL on a limited piece of hardware for less than the going price on PC. You and the others still harping on this issue (note, thread started May 9th) are, quite simply, unsatisfiable. Will you just spend the extra bucks already and just go play on the PC, please?

That, and the PS3 is harder to code for than the Xbox.

I've wanted to say that every time I see a "update", "infinite worlds", or "mods" thread.... but we're ragged if we do.
