Been poking about this thread and I really cannot believe how limited and primitive the xbox 360 is. It has less power than my 10 yr old single core PC tower that can run minecraft fine. With inf worlds.
How can a multi-billion $$$ company release a console that is so under powered???
The map size is decent but (begining to get cramped on my main world.) the skyheight needs a increase. I would prefer infinite worlds so I can continue to explore, and visit every biome.
Rentable servers. They are the key to all our problems.
I can't see servers solving the problem. A server, no matter how big, won't solve the problem of the amount of ram each individual xbox has to run the game in.
The size is fine. I don't need or want infinite worlds.

If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens..

Chances are you've put some added RAM into that PC tower over the last 10 years. If a PC user finds that his games are lagging, he runs down to the local computer store and buys things like more RAM or new graphics cards (I know my son always did and bit by bit, his old computer has definitely morphed into something very different from the old tower he bought 10 years ago; and actually, he recently retired that tower and has bought a new super-powered gaming console because he was finding many of the FPS games he likes were lagging quite a bit. The Xbox 360, however, is not upgradable like PC's are and even though the Xbox wasn't underpowered when it was released; people have not been able to add anything to beef them up over time. So, yeah, now they are behind the times... and that's why a new one is on the horizon.
Let's see, Fortresscraft has infinite worlds… but no water or lava physics, no mobs (oops, they just now got around to adding zombies…. only), no animals, no sun, no moon, no weather, no _______.
One of the mods here said it best (and I'm paraphrasing here): "_______craft isn't Minecraft".

I still don't get it. You can click a couple of buttons and get a whole new world to explore and an infinite number of those new worlds at that. In each new world, it takes all of a Minecraft day to gather some wood and cobble and iron to make pickaxes and swords and a bucket... and you're good to travel. Grab 3 wool along the way and you have your portable bed. The explorers of old didn't have to take tools and a mansion with them to explore. Also, there's a brand new nether fortress in each new world... and soon a new end and end-dragon in each new world... no worries about having to respawn the old one time and again.

remote servers would solve the problem if (and only if) enabling such moved all server engine functions off the xBox. Whether that is possible to do in the current code configuration is what is at question (along with what would happen to lag).

What you're thinking about is being done. It's called Minecraft Realms.
I have yet to actually use up "all" of a map's surface area, so in that respect I'm fine with the size. It would be nice if you could build taller buildings, and to have a more orderly biome generation (So for example you never get desert touching tundra/taiga), but given the limitations we currently have I can live with it till (hopefully) the next gen Xbox's version.
I have played MC clones. Mostly they are garbage however. Xenominer has great potential and one of the greatest potential about it is that they offer a limitless world. It works great and has no problems. There are as many block varietes as there are in MC. This has created no problems on my xbox's. 4J really needs to correct this problem. I have mined most of my world and have obtained almost all possible diamonds in it and have built my world to almost maximum using most possible surface area. I have stopped playing MC in the past weeks and will come back after TU9 but i have to start a new world as i am out of resources and space. i hope 4J decides to correct this issue and soon.
I played Terraria over the weekend.. couple hours everynight.. I set it to "Large" and let me tell you. I didn't hit the bottom of the map while mining and I walked in one direction for about 30+mins and there was no end to be found... There was something Off-Putting about that.. I like to have "SOME" limit to my maps apparently. Not infinite (which I know MC) isn't but .... I'd be ok with a border of some kind even in the next gen systems....

Me too actually I'd say 100km2 is more than big enough.
That's ten kilometres by ten kilometres.
It would be great if they could do that current gen with servers.
Maybe double that wouldn't be completely over the top for MMO servers.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
The world size definitely satisfies my needs of building and gathering resources, but sometimes I may not get a particular biome that I want to spawn like a mooshroom biome for example.

With rentable servers we could get a server to run off Microsoft and not us. This solves 2 of the Xbox's problems.
1. Better connection because your not running a game off your connection.
2. Bigger worlds because your Xbox wouldn't have to focus on running a server. The free CPU or RAM could then be dedicated to generating bigger worlds.
Ok…. now all we need is servers for the xbox. Course, then it would be another version of MC, not the xbox version.
Minecraft Realms… xbox.
Would I pay an additional $10-$20 a month just to get bigger worlds?
HECK NO.
(I don't get #1 at all. How the game runs would be totally dependent on your connection.)

They could set up like BF3 where you could join servers for free. And as of right now a example of MC XBLA is the multiplayer lag in the End. If you have a average ping of 10-20 your still going to experience lag because your hosting from your connection.
I myself would love to have the option to pay for a server to enable a larger map.
I play on PC almost exclusively because I don't want to have to create a new map every time my friends and I want to build something new. I know it doesn't take much time to gather the basics, but I like to have all my farms, and I like to be able to visit the amazing structures that people besides me build. I know that I am less inclined to want to build something if in 2 weeks or something my friends and I are just going to be starting up a new map because we are starting to get a bit crowded and all the diamonds have been mined out.
I know that the limiting factor is the memory (RAM), but an outside server would obviously have access to more. Right now, If it was just a single player map, you could definitely have a larger map, the ram you do use for the map is only the home chunk (I think) and the chunks which are loaded because of you. It would be easy to add an option to make a single player only option to allow larger maps.

It wasn't- 7 years ago. Just wait till Xmas.
