I'm assuming the seed generator would still be random for each new world? i wouldn't want to start in the same 1000 x 1000 area every time i started a new game
ya i thought thee same thing it looked very small in my head but once i played it was huge but like the second comment sayed... theres alot of people being bitchy about it but theres more than anough room to play but if your playing with 8 people or even 4 that could fill up kinda fast
i thought i was the only one who realized this im glad theres more people who arent complaining about the size and i personally will never use up all that room and i will have a lot of underground/underwater houses two which will help a lot
I think 1000 x 1000 is big enough if you think about it the area of the world would be 1,000,000 blocks!Plus, the game just came out, i bet thier BOUND! to make it bigger sooner or later
It definitely sounded small at first, but having played it myself, it's not actually that bad in my opinion. Thing is, I usually hang around one area, PC or 360, so... Yeah.
Having said that, when it gets to the Adventure Update (I presume they're updating the same was as the PC version did), I think a bigger world would be a bit of a requirement.
I'm not so upset about having a limited world, I'm personally more upset about having a relatively small limit. I'm one of those people who like to explore. Yeah, 1000x1000 isn't the smallest thing in the world, but I do wish we had bigger. I understand that this isn't running on a PC, we don't have "unlimited" computer resources to take advantage of, but even so. It really can't be a storage issue. I have tons of minecraft worlds saved, and all of them together are less then 100MBs total. It really can't be a RAM or processor issue, as I highly doubt they would go with a server approach to the multiplayer (one xbox acts as a server for 8 people). I'd imagine it would be closer to... gah, I forgot the word... but it would be like everyone is acting like a little personal server, but only telling others... Adhoc?
In any case, I don't expect to get infinite worlds, but I do want some more room to explore.
I have to correct someone who said the Xbox processor was not good enough to run a larger world seeing how Castleminer z a indie game is an endless world(least i think it is) Xbox could handle it I gurantee it. I do apologize in advance if im wrong.
yes, but if you go very far out it lags like crazy and the game is basically unplayable, a hard limit is much better to keep the framerate up
My first reaction after hearing this was feeling very disappointed. I quickly tried to imagine the limited world in my head and felt like there was going to be no space for me and my other friends to build or explore. I had to see this in my own way of testing by simply making a creative world (not flat) and build a border of stone (1000x1) making a square on a good location on the map. Already as I start just the first line, I could feel that 1000x1000 isn't as super-small as I thought(reminder, I WAS flying lol). As I finished the first border I turned right and began the second border. Again, doing this as I saw the world passing by me made 1000x1000 seem less smaller than before. When I finished the 1000x1000 square, I flew around inside seeing the world in it. There was actually a lot of space, way more than I saw in my head. I could not believe that that was even 1000x1000. I noticed that flying speed is approximately 10 bps (Blocks Per Second lol). So to fly from one wall from another took almost or exactly 1 minute and 40 seconds to get to the other side. It might sound pretty small there but try it yourself. you will be pretty surprised how big 1000x1000 is. I then tried walking around, pretending as if I just began playing the Xbox version for the first time. It was nice, kind of forgot about the border being there for a while (remember that I wasn't walking a straight line).
So after seeing how it would feel to play at a 1000x1000 limit. I came to some pros/cons. (very simple list)
PROS:
More than enough room to build big
Good size for new players
Easy 60 FPS (even with 4-player split) (<Big Pro)
Room for all bioms
Though small, It still feels pretty big when walking around
Cons:
Exploration (Above ground) is not going to have the same feel; whatsoever (<Big Con)
You will know your world very, very well within a couple or a few days of playing
1000x1000 might seem even smaller when you have 8 players in that limited world
(Not sure if they tweaked the game on this) It would be terrible to get a huge(I mean HUGE) body of water somewhere in the world
Forced to build near the center to avoid the limited feeling. Looking for great spots not possible will be harder if you were to avoid seeing the invisible walls
To a conclusion, I think 1000x1000 is.. a descent size. Im not satisfied with the size, in my opinion. I think doubling it to 2000x2000 would make me happy (still limited but i believe 2000x2000 will give a very large sandbox feel and give more of that exploration trait back ). Over-satisfied at 4000x4000. I wouldn't even know what the word limit is at 10,000x10,000! Again, I urge you guys to make a creative, not flat, world and see how it will be at 1000x1000, its big(Use the cords by pressing F3. look at x and y cords). Comment if you think this is actually a good size or agree like me if possible they should at the very least double it. Hell, tell me what you would sacrifice via in-game mechanics for a whopping 10,000x10,000 world. Thanks for taking time for reading such a long post. Peace guys
You missed a big con, unbelievably small Nether, finding glowstone is freaking killing me
I think 2000x2000 would be good but the thing I could find being bad with a bigger map is the actual Map you get when you spawn in the world. It would seem like everything would be really small and hard to find your house if you get lost since different colours show up on the maps. But 1000x1000 does seem fairly large while walking around.
I didnt like it at first but i went back and played through the game for about an hour and wandered around. World is not that bad. its def not as small as the pocket version. This wont be my main minecraft version so . i bought it maybe to see whats its about and to play when i visit my cuz in June.
It sounds small but when you think of it generally people build in less than a 100x100 area. Even that sounds small, but in the game it's actually quite large.
The only problem i have with this is limited resources. Yes there is probably enough resources to use for your hearts desire, but nonetheless they are limited.
I believe this is not as important as the "split-screen" issue.
What do you want a big world for, if you cant play with your friends in split-screen????
For me 1000x1000 is not that bad, but if they could only double the size that would be perfect.
Although I am also upset that some people can't play split screen, this is just a thread about my thought on the map size, so lets stay on topic lol
Just try a great seed like "Glacier".
1000x1000 is actually quite a bit.
Over-used. but a great seed.
Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/

Its sound like "We hope to expand the limits, but we don't know if we can, so we don't want to make you fake hopes..." for me.
But its good to have somewhat a little hope, perhaps they find a way to make a little bigger the maps...
I think they will be able to increase map size,It just requires them to spend time on tweaking the map size instead of updates I assume.
