According to the version history, do I understand correctly that upon release, the 360 version will have fences, but not fence gates? According to the wiki, fences weren't stackable until 1.7, and fence gates weren't added until 1.8.
There go my ideas of a farm? And I had a barn building planned and everything lol.

You CAN make fences more than one high, it's just a pain in the but.
You have to start at the top - first build the wall that you (eventually) want to be fence out of dirt, take off a layer of dirt and place fence on it... take off the layer of dirt underneath, more fence and repeat until you get to the ground.
He means as a fence gate. But would that work? I'm not familiar with trapdoors in my game, yet. Don't they just open up and down?
That would work when it is in the up position - BUT you can jump over an open trapdoor I believe... if you are wanting to hold in mobs with this fence you need a door.

*facepalm* Why didn't *I* think of using a door? I feel silly now. Also some great tips there, thanks!
Just spend all your time doing other stuff, and getting your stuff ready. Then you can make a SUPER ULTRA MEGA FARM OF DEATH or something like that.
LOL - well, it IS a Mega Farm of Death... for the animals... hehehe... *ahem*
That brings up another question... let's say they change map size or add biomes (or fence gates pls, heh) or something like that, would your current/old world even be usable anymore? I'm thinking it might not change to the current version. You might be forced to make a new map to use new update features.
Yeah there are some really weird land formations if you use the same map... 50 block sheer cliffs and stuff, but only chunks that you haven't loaded / visited yet get the new biomes. If you explored the whole map, you just wouldn't see them unless they made the world bigger.
I recall just not getting too invested into a map when I knew the jungle biomes and caverns were coming.
It's a little frustrating, but honestly I'd probably just make a new map. I'm curious as to how deep the map goes, btw. No one has mentioned. I do love me a good cave-diving.

I actually have been playing 1.6.6 to get used to the feel of it for xbox and I ran into the no gate problem... I just used doors.. It's looks goofy but works great.

It will be mixed versions, because they added bug fixes from future versions. So that means there can be fence gates.
