Just a theory, but one that I'll believe until I see it for myself instead of through a youtube video (at which point i'll either be severely disappointed or ecstatically happy). They may have just limited world size for the people who got the codes to play early. Think about it, those who got the codes got them so they could have a taste or preview of the game, not the full thing. So it's entirely possible that they just limited the world size and they'll release a small update on the day of release to increase it to it's actual size, whatever it may be.
So, in my opinion, there are 3 possibilities:
1. They'll increase to actual world size on May 9.
2. It'll be increased with future updates to accomodate new biomes, mineshafts, stongholds, etc.
3. It won't increase and it'll stay at 1,024x1,024. (EXTREMELY unlikely)

I hope TN55 is right however i can never in the history of gaming recall a developer releasing a game then making it twice or three times as big after release. If they could of made it huge then why not straight from the start?
The amount of peope who got codes was minimal. So why would they risk those people putting out videos and harming sales even if they intended to make the worlds bigger
Well, really, the start has yet to come; 9th of May is the start, which a lot of people seem to be forgetting. I'm sure the code release wasn't intended for the purpose of making youtube videos, and those that are opting out of buying the game are just stupid. Also, those who decide not to buy will see at some point that worlds are actually bigger than a map and most likely buy the game, it isn't going to kill sales in the long run.
And your first point kind of furthers my point, they might not make it bigger after release, but ON release may be much more likely.

Yeah, like they got a capped world size version and on release date they will release a small update that the early user will instal at start up. The version that people have been playing early would be the showcase demo.

exactly. it could also be what they use for trial versions.
Maybe you right. But to say people who have now been put off buying it because of the world size are stupid,is a stupid comment in itself.
Alot of people had hoped for something with a real sence of adventure. When you find out that theres a big chance you sence of adventure could be achieved within 10 mins of walking then its disappointing to say the very least.
They aren't stupid, like you said, but some might think they are acting so.

A game has yet to be released like MC.Alot of games add content with land/maps....halo gears fable fallout...the list goes on.
For the rest of the comments...if it puts some one off ...good ridens to closed minds.MC is about expanding.
hmnmm now theres a thought. I didnt think about that what if the game and early versions uses a trial version sized world? and the final game when it comes out on may 9th includes a "update" that gives the world its full size? we will see! i did hear that one feature (sensitivity) was not in early versions but is in the final release :-)
I'm sure everyone has heard the rumors of a couple of updates coming up on release date. I guess we'll see what's in store. But remember, some things had to be sacrificed for console performance. And we don't yet know how deep down the maps go, either. But if enough people complain, I'm sure Mojang will try to work in a larger map update at some point in the future. They have promised to keep updating the 360 version just like they do the PC version, if I have heard right.

THERES NO WAY IN HELL THAT THEY WONT INCREASE THE SIZE. The community backlash will be huge because of the small size of the map. They would be pressured to increasing it. Whether they like it or not.

AdminThe copies being released at the moment (that some people (like us) have had for about a week) are the release of the game coming May 9th.
I guess never mind then. Oh well. I hope it changes in the future.
