To be honest its big enough for now but I can see a problem when they update it for npc villages and strongholds. Infinite maps can be done numorous ways; i.e. the constant unloading and loading of chunks that gets updated to player changes based off the save but it has to be done smart or lag might become an issue. (nothing that a little player testing/trial and error couldnt solve) Im pretty sure this is what developers probably had in mind but since the code was in a different format (shockwave if im not mistaken) it probably didnt translate clean.
Ok, so, what, 150,000 free surface blocks per player with 8 players?

Not sure what you're asking here? I was just pointing out the problems 4j studios faced bringing minecraft over to xbox we are lucky we just lost infinite world but can see them updating/ have to update it to infinite world later.

That was what would it would be like with NPC villages. Kinda...ignored everything else. SOORRY!
Is it confirmed that the nether will be in at launch? What about the end? Also, I like the idea of loading screens dividing other sections of the world that are equal size, better than nothing if the xbox really can't have huge worlds. I don't care about infinite worlds, but something twice or four times bigger would be welcomed. I really hope they consider the loading screen other sections thing though.

oh it's cool. The problem i saw with limited maps and adding npc villages and strongholds is you could find both in probably 1-2 hours of searching. Where as on the pc it took me 2 days to find a npc village and I have never ran into a strong hold. (But to be honest only invested 5 weeks of playing the pc version since my lag was insane.)
The thing I don't like about a limited map is the fact that there will also be limited resources. No, I'm not talking about dirt, sand, cobblestone or even coal. I'm talking about iron, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, diamonds etc. This won't be a problem if you're playing by yourself or with another person, but it will if you're playing with four or even eight people. I can't imagine anything worse than building a gigantic base of your dreams with a couple of your friends and then run out of reputable materials like diamond and iron because there is simply none of it left in the map.
I might be overreacting slightly, but I don't want to have to start again on a new world because there's simply nothing left of one material to mine.
I'm pretty sure your math is wrong, using info from the Wiki;
There is an average of 3.097 diamond ore per chunk.
Chunks are segments of the virtually infinite Minecraft maps. They are 16 blocks wide, 16 blocks long, and 256 blocks deep
Number of chunks per axis - 1024/16 = 64
Total number of chunks - 64*64= 4096
Chunks multiplied by diamond average per chunk - 4096*3.097 = 12685.312 average total diamonds.
Eh, I didn't take into account the "stone" part of the percentage. I blame the time of night and the fact that I had to parse through so many "OMG TINY MAPZ!" posts that all I wanted to do was prove that there isn't a resource problem.
Your number is most likely correct. Doesn't change the fact that there's still enough diamond for 8 people, does it?
On the topic of the indie clones, I've played the top 4 (CastleMiner Z, CastleMiner, TotalMiner, and FortressCraft). I will safely tell you NONE of them has the complete functionality of Minecraft. No passive mobs, no flowing liquid, no redstone, no minecarts, no farming. Plus, each one has strengths and weaknesses all their own. I won't bore you with a list...go download a demo if you want.
I've played them and been left wanting the real deal. They are enjoyable, but you really are just getting your money's worth there. There's only one Minecraft, and even with a bit of a map limit it's still going to whip the llama compared to the indie clones.
I see where that one guy was getting at.Castleminer Z worlds go out 1,000,000 blocks and it has more ores more items dragons,zombies,skeletons and a demon in the underwolrd (which you can dig to).1 indie game like minecraft goes out 1,000,000 blocks in every direction.But minecraft 360 is only 1,000x1,000 big thats bs.Atleast make the world 10,000x10,000
the world size is fine for now, 1024x1024 is plenty big for the 1.6.6 version of minecraft.
i'm sure that once they start updating it and more and more features are added, the world size will expand with it (whether it be unlimited world size or limited).
why would you want it to be unlimited at 1.6.6? no npc villages, no strongholds, fewer and smaller biomes... you guy's are definitely over reacting.
the only real reason to be upset is because there will be limited resources.
MCXB360 is just an ALTERNATIVE for those who can't play the pc version or are purely console gamers.

Well, think about eight 50x50 mines down to Bedrock. There are still 624x624 blocks of space, yet all the underground resources for 8 players for months.
the thing about it is the map on XBLA is actually smaller than a Minecraft PC edition map. PC edition is 1024x1024 for a map (item) and the XBLA full seed is 862x862, not 1024. which doesnt even fit a basic scale for chunk loading. each chunk is a 16x16 set of blocks with a 256 height (bedrock to sky limit) so if you take 1024 and divide by 16 you get 64 making 64 chunks on a PC map. on xbla, 862/16=53.875 so like.. 54 chunks almost, one chunk has 14x14 instead of 16x16. sorry if i confused you somewhere.

@Boomheadshot1254, 1000x1000=1,000,000 blocks.
