I usually prefer horizontal. But in this game, I dislike how it messes with the field of view and makes everything look kinda odd. I'll probably go with vertical in this case.
I have a 42" HD TV. My girlfriend and I will be playing vertical! the tv is big enough to give a good left right view and I really want the up down view too. It's a must for building if you ask me.
Besides, I use this 42" TV for my computer as well, and I usually always have minecraft fill half the screen while watching netflix or something on the other half, So vertical view is something I am used too already for minecraft.
Vertical. Because horizontal split screen games always look real squinty to me on HDTV. I prefer being able to sit on the side of the tv I'm playing on. I never thought about using this to get a second perspective building by myself. Sounds quite helpful.
