1. keep iron tools (If you have moved on to diamond) Iron tools are always handy if lets say your diamond pick breaks and you just found more diamonds. And always keep food, even though there is no hunger bar, once you're injured you need food to heal.
2. near bedrock and lava, Gold, redstone and lapis may be eaiser to find a little bit more up. But you can always find some around diamonds.
3. Don't build something square and boring. Make it looks neat, realistic. And for the inside, keep you chests organized.
