I have MC for PC but it lags like a mother * so would it be worth purchasing for xbox? AND more importantly, would I be able to transfer worlds onto it?
Mods are confirmed no, texture packs and skins are going to be added but not at launch
Texture packs and skins are a maybe. They have not once said, without a doubt, there will be skins and texture packs. They have said they will be doing their best to get those things into the game. That isn't a guarantee.

Its possible because that version is open , like the pc version. He switched out the textures , it would work in a same way if it was download content. but on the xbox final release version that you buy , you will not be able to mess with any of the files on the inside of the game. It will most likely be encrypted.
As for the original posters question , yes I very highly recommend getting this game. 60 FPS far distance and smooth gameplay will most likely beat PC version with lag , unless you like lag lol.
If you don't mind vanilla Minecraft like me why not? If you already have a Xbox and don't mind playing vanilla (at least for the foreseeable future) it makes much more sense not to torcher yourself with lag, or to put down 800 dollars for a PC you don't need. There are many other reasons too.
I feel like Mojang might do something with famous mods like implement them in the game and have the option to enable and disable them. I would only buy it for xbox if it lagged to the extend of unplayabillity
I feel it will be worth it, even if I payed 11 bucks for the PC version. If anything, I'll download the trial to see if it is well made, then unlock it.

I would be suprised if skins didnt make it. Mildly suprised if texture packs didnt make it either. (I mean both are in Minecraft Pocket Edition, Not to mention they are set up for DLC with a tab for it in the main menu shown in pax east demo and in the J-tag version being spread around). What I'm not suprised to be added is mods for many reasons. (one of which is that mods were not created by mojang so the use of those to advertise/boost thier product with out the permision of the creator is illegal. Not impossible to add just be a pain in the butt to do.)
But, If your like me and lag like crazy on pc then grab xbox edition. Split screen is a big bonus for me, along with the ease of crafting that comes along with xbox edition, no more will I have to pause and look up a recipe I'd forgoten. (my memory is crap)
If all else fails grab the free trial that will release with the full game on May 9th and try it out.
I think they will have like add ons to the game that u have to buy with mods in it but idc about mods on xbox all I want to do is change skins I hate the default skin (steve) but I also would want to see downloadable survival maps it's my replacement for mods but still can't wait for mcx360
No you cannot transfer worlds.

It's very likely though because it's possible
