Total miner is crap at the moment. They are currently working on infinite terrain though , once they get that maybe I will play it . If you don't buy the game just because of creative you are rediculous , you can make anything you can think of in survival and its alot more fun I mean seriously what are you going to do after you build things in creative sit around and look at it? In survival atleast you can survive in your creations lol.
I get why people have this argument ^^^^^ on Creative, but thats why I still get TooManyItems, because after you build your awesome creation, then you just quick swap to survival and survive legit in your creation. What makes this experience even better is with the invasion mod, then millions of mobs come at once even in the daytime. And thats awesome!

Personally, although I want creative mode, I don't mind building my mage tower in survival until creative is added. All I have to do is torch the surrounding 100 blocka with light, cut down all the trees (which I would do anyways for the floor{s}), and mine out what I need. It shouldn't be hard untilI reach the really complicated floors, and by then, the game should have creaive mode.
Of course, I could always build the mage wall first, just making it two blocks and a fence high (so spider can't anally suprise me), and build from there, adding torches as I go.
