Here's an Idea for hosting a server for Minecraft: Xbox edition:
Maybe there'll be a server download on the minecraft official website to host Xbox 360 servers. This would allow people to host 24/7 server by running this just like the computer servers. Not sure how the whole IP thing would work out. Maybe run it on a different port.

This probably won't happen because the "server" will be run like almost any other multiplayer game on xbox. No forwarding ports or anything, just invite some friends and there they are, playing with you. Now, this "server" will go down when the host player shuts off his/her xbox or leaves the game. So, most likely, the only way to host a "24/7 server" is to just leave your xbox on 24/7.

You may not have to. We don't really know 100% exactly how the multiplayer system will work. Most likely though, if you want a server all the time you will have to cannibalize a 360 and strip it down to internals and keep several coolers on it all the time.
well i got a spare one that doesnt read disks so honestly its already striped cuz i took it apart to get a new drive haha so i could do this in theory but maybe therely be an easier way =P
I remember reading something about a game actually doing this in the nexuiz forums awhile back. It's on the xbla marketplace, but I can't remember what it was called, but it definately is possible.
Theoretically you could create a silver account on an old xbox and run a 24/7 server from there. There would be 7 open slots for people to join because the silver account would be in the game the whole time.
What they should do is create a "server mode" where it just runs the server and leaves all 8 player slots open.
Managing the friends list would be the biggest problem because you would have to accept the friend requests before they can even get into your server. Who wants to have you on their friends list twice if they were already your friend they would have to also add your server to their list as well.
I almost wonder if you would log into Windows Live, connected with Xbox Live. Then once your in Windows Live, you'd open a Minecraft Server file for Xbox and host that way.. I dunno.
Its possible without the player having to be on his xbox. BF3 just incorporated this, you can buy a server that is online 24/7 for as long as you purchase it so it is possible.
Leaving your Xbox on is the only way I can see for a 24/7 server, but that has limitations.
You could however "tag team" your world. Anyone on the server can save it to their harddrives, so if the host has to go, one of the others can save the game and become host.
interesting theories honestly i wouldnt mid paying for a server as long as it was password locked so this way the ppl i want i can tell the password nd maybe mincraft can have a search so u can find specific ones ect u never know llol still lots of time for development
Its possible. Battlefield 3 has a rent a server function that allows you to rent your own server that operates even when you are offline. I do not see while minecraft 360 could not do this, seeing as it would be a nice source of profit.

Perhaps the host can just put the map an a 'file share' and send it to a friend. the friend could just chuck it into his own server for the time being.
I'm thinking a tag team method. Host saves world as (s)he leaves, and sends it to next person, so on and so forth, running a ring to keep it going. The server would only be down for like 10-15 minutes a day, which is still essentially a 24/7 map.

I think something like this would be the only way to go besides dedicated servers. I really wouldn't mind too much if i had to wait for it to download. That would be better than not being able to play at all when the host is offline. I think it would be integrated into the world sharing system they might have.

Just drill a hole in your freezer and put your Xbox in there with the cords coming out the hole. You think I'm kidding? It would work....................possibly.

Well i don't think most "normal" people have that stuff just lying around. They do however have freezers. You could jerry-rig a PC liquid cooler to the xbox if you wanted to. All of this is so unpractical.
