The title explains the subject of this thread so i'm not going to repeat it 5 million times as everyone else does ^_^.
You see, i'm kinda low on money next month and i dont know if i can get Xbox live in the budget and we all know the next month is the A.K.A the release of minecraft XBLA. I'm going to buy the game but do you need xbox live gold to play it even if you have bought it? And also a extra question for safety: Do you need xbox live gold to actually buy the game from xbox marketplace?
You don't need gold to play. You don't need gold to even download it. Just have your MSP and xbox live silver. Aslong as you're connected to the marketplace, You can download it. And after it's downloaded you don't need to be connected to anything to play it. As with ever other arcade game. If you want to play multiplayer, that will require gold. Hope I helped

You helped me trough alot of research :] thanks! *pressing the up button*
I also like to add...
When you originally download a game - with a silver or gold account - the rights to the game is published to the xbox you bought it on. And, the rights are given to your account.
So with this in mind.
You can play xbla games using the xbox with rights to the game (Without being connected to xbox live.)
You can play on any xbox using the gamertag with rights to the game (connected to xbox live)
Both of these methods can be used at the same time on two different Xboxes, even online gameplay.
Side note: Every 4 months you can transfer your gamertag marketplace rights to a different xbox.
