I haven't played the pc long enough to know or witness how an version update works via survival mode.
That is, suppose minecraft releases at version 1.66 and I create a survival game. Then we expect, for example, jungle biomes to be released sometime after. When the update does occur, will it be available in the same map created before in some not already generated chunk? Or would a whole new world have to be created? Biomes are a pretty big feature in minecraft that was introduced after 1.66 and it would suck not having it.
I hope you know an update can't ADD to your world biomes. You're world has already been made, updates can't change that.
If the worlds are like PC worlds and don't generate all the way to their limit when you start, it's completely plausible that the new biomes would generate in parts of your world you haven't been to yet, just like the PC version. However, seeing as how we don't know if the whole world generates at once or if it loads and unloads like the PC version, we won't find out until we play it.

very interesting theory but that's getting really technical, in my opinion i think that it will generate after your game is made, but i guess we will have to wait and see

My guess is that, you would have to make a new map.

Yes. Unless when you first spawned in your world you didn't go very far. Then after you wait for the update you go to ungenerated parts where the new biomes will be created. This was already said, I think. I didn't bother reading the top of the page.

But really, it is easier for an Xbox to generate it all at once than to load it continously. That creates something called LAG.
I know, but alot of people attribute them to being good so it helps the metaphor, if chunks are a reasonable size then would it not be more effecient to have X amount of chunks loaded around the player than to try and load the massive map? It isnt endless but from what i gather it is fairly large, and keeping all of that data updating woul be just as inefficient?

And that of course.
Xbox, rarely lags. Only due to Connection.
