I've been scouring for this information and not getting a clear answer. I know when playing you can invite your friends into your world, but is it possible to set up a server so that your friends can play on your world when your not online, similar to a shared server on pc minecraft ?
Honestly, I don't see alot of my friends wanting to go from a constantly connectable social world like on pc to a restrictive multiplayer mode like that.
As far as we've been informed, no. You have to be on to host the server, much like hosting a PC version where you have to run the Minecraft_Server.exe (Vanilla) for others to play.
The xbox doesnt have multitasking compatability, this is why you lose saved data if you go to the dashboard without saving. because the game/app closes completely.
I was just hoping I guess that they would have an option to join a server IP instead of joining a friend in progress, so that we could set up servers externally from the xbox. I guess the only alternative is to literally have an xbox with a gold subscription that never turns off
Since its P2P there's no way for the world to be left up when the host is offline.
In order for the world to be left up the worlds would have to be saved on dedicated servers.
I'd like to see the base game be P2P like its gonna be. Then have the option to pay for dedicated servers through Microsoft. Like $5 a month or something.
It'd be great if they gave the game free dedicated servers. But since Microsoft apparently thinks their rich asses don't have enough money for that about the only way we'd get them is paying.

I'm completely fine with the way the online multiplayer works on MCX360 because it functions the same as any other Xbox 360 game. There shouldn't be dedicated servers or anything special, it's an Xbox game, not a PC game.
Maybe it'll work like Forge from Halo: Reach where you can build things with people, and your friends can save the world from where it's at so they can edit it without you.

You do realize there are also a lot of 360 games with dedicated servers?

I was about to say the same thing. Lots of console games have dedicated servers, and they function EXACTLY the same as PC games. There's not a magical alternative to networking for consoles that is dramatically different than PC gaming.
I don't understand why we can't pay a service to host a server, much like we do on pc, and manually enter an IP address on the xbox 360 version to join, so we can have those types of servers.
It could be like forge since you can save your world and transfer it online via transfer cable or usb. Idk if 4j is implementing a map share feature
A map sharing feature would make sense. But really not for changing map hosts.
You'd have to upload your map to a fileshare which could take awhile depending on your internet speed and the size of the map, your friend would have to download which also depends on map size and internet speed, then everyone has to reconnect to him.
If they made it all automatic like the host migration system from Call of Duty then I could see it working. Hosts selects a new host before he signs out, new host automatically downloads the map from the original host, original host is then signed out/leaves/whatever, then the map gets set up on the new host, then everyone goes about their business.
Other then that using a fileshare system for changing hosts really just wouldn't be practical every time the host had to get offline :/

They have cloud on Xbox now, they could work with a little piece of shared cloud that you can share with your friends. If you are offline but your friends want to play on your server, they could connect with the save on that shared cloud.
The friend that wants to play on that server gets a download for that save and is the host for that server that time. The friends of the owner (only his friends or the people he invited for the server) can join the server. If the friend stops playing, the server gets saved on that piece of shared cloud again so other people can start/join the server.
That would be very awesome, if Microsoft was smart they would allow it, but they aren't that smart I think.
I play on the server of a friend, but he can only play in the weekends, so that's a bummer
Or you could save your game to the cloud, and have a friend log in as you to access it when your offline. Thats a good idea.

That's fine, but completely unproductive and irrelevant to the topic. How it is now is crippled, and it's really swaying my purchase.
