No cross platform play ):
I understand the the PC version is the most updated and will most likely always be ahead of this xbla version, I only hope i can one day join a PC player's sever to admire their amazing work, and so they can admire mine!
I also hope this does not mean we'll be starting with a very out-dated version of Minecraft, I'm looking foward to redstone and survival and crafting!!
why you so negative read carefully what notch said Can the XBLA version play with PC games? Not quite; the PC version has been (and likely will be for a long time) far ahead of the console port version, so having PC and console game sessions interact would be tricky at best - though this may change in the future
I was honestly hoping for cross platform play...sad to see it not happening yet. I am hopeful for the future...might as well get started in a world now and build onto it later.
Well.. I doubt Cross Platform play will work between pc and xbox.
- Different versions. XBLA version starts at Beta 1.6.6, PC is at 1.2.3
- Even if they catch up, PC has mods and a lot of stuff that doesn't work with the XBLA version.
- Even if mods work on XBLA at some point, I doubt EVERY mod will work, which means there's still a problem.
- If mods worked fine, there's still the player limit. At the moment the XBLA version has a limit of 8 people I think.. and the PC version I've seen like 500+
- Even once the game fully catches up to the same version the PC version is on, I doubt everything will work the same. Mods, Player limits, World Size, etc.
The only way it would work is if there was a specific server for the PC version, that limited it to what the XBLA version has. And connected to both PC and XBLA.
Honestly, I'm fine the 360 only stuff, I just wish it had proper public servers. So you don't have to have people as friends to play with them. I don't know many people that play Minecraft, and I don't wanna add a ton of people I don't know just to play with them online. Although I'm sure this'll be worked on in later versions. I can't be the only one who doesn't like the Friends Only aspect.
no need for that. Being disappointed does not equal complaining.
if people understood how hard it would be to cross platform an xbox and pc they wouldnt say ****... you do know only ONE game has cross platformed with the pc.. and thats Final fantasy 11.. and it has its own start up engine.. i can assure you.. no i can promise you it willll never cross platform
forgot about that one but that game is awful... and another reason it cant cross platform.. is because the worlds on the xbox cant go on forever like the pc.. due to xbox memory.. how would that work? also the pc requires an IP address to even start a multiplayer server.. theyd have to remake the server set up system.. it just doesnt seem at alll possible.. but you kids can keep dreamin ha
I really hope we do get cross platform capability in the future. On another note they recently said Minecraft would eventually be able to support up to 80 players on Xbox
whos they? some nerdy kid making up rumors to sound like he knows something other people dont?.. get outa here.
---
besides im glad they wont/cant do it.. pc kids are awful.. one of the best features of whats happening is xbox players that never knew about minecraft will now..
They wouldnt have to remake. They could just make it an option.
Wanna set up a Xbox compatable server click here
Wanna set up a normal server click here

hahaahahahahaha id love to see how theyd do that.
i could say the same thing about call of duty but that wont make it happen.. if cod hasnt cross platform.. little ol minecraft wont.

I wouldn't "promise" anything to anyone about a game you have no part of making or developing. Especially when the developers said that it is a very viable option that cross platform could happen (not saying they said it would) if they were both running on the same version.
Edit: Being someone who plays FFXI I do understand how hard it is for cross platform games to work. I understand it a lot more then you possibly would, assuming you don't/have never played Final Fantasy XI Online before. Also, the POL (PlayOnline) client is slowly being stepped back from since it has it's limitations for Square Enix.
Also want to add... FFXI was first developed for the PS2, then it was ported to the computer, and finally Xbox 360 got it.
Wow, someone needs to calm down a little. I found it on the Minecraft wiki: http://www.minecraft...ki/Xbox_Edition second to last bullet point under exclusive features.
A wiki isn't a reliable source of information. Anyone can edit it.
Edit: from the way I'm reading it, looks like who ever placed that info there misunderstood. It will be 8 players online with friends.

when i read your last post i thought to myself "either this dude is a dirty lair or he read the wiki" hahah
In another thread people were discussing this and it was mentioned that it was now locked even to members apparently. I was only sharing what I saw. I'm looking for the thread now.
I can understand that, with the amount of people i've seen on here spewing obvious rubbish the last few days I expect people to be somewhat wary of any new information. I only posted about the wiki because, as I said, I read it was currently locked even to members and I thought the information might be decent.
Even if the wiki is locked, there is no citation as to where that bit of information came from. The rest of the info that has been made known has been cited to tweets from the mojang.
i just sick of people being disappointing because they dont get what they want, then people posting stuff that isnt even legit.. then other people see it and they tell people.. and it becomes one big let down when the game comes out.

How do you guys feel about this news?

Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/
