My friend wants to get Minecraft but he can only get it for the Xbox. I dont have an Xbox and i use the computer to play Minecraft. So i was wondering if we could play together on a multiplayer server. (because i have my own server)
The official description on the Xbox Marketplace says it will feature cross-platform play, so there's a very good chance it will be available at launch.
It will definatly take numerous patches. Why won't your friend get it on a computer? Does he/she have a reason to only get it on xbox? It still costs the same amount. Cross-platforming will more than likely come out 2 months after console release by my guesses. If mojang gets on it right away that is.

some people doesnt have the pc to run minecraft i know a few so they are going to buy it for xbox maybe thats the case
If you don't have the PC to run MC I'm surprised. 5-year old laptops can run MC just fine with or without optifine.

i bought the game but this piece O **** blacks out the screen after building terrain and a error pops up for a quarter of a second. i posted the error up on forum's support but all i got was a re-install java response

Well i think that you could have your server run a xbla compatible version that backdates anybody who joins to the version to the current version the Xbox version is based off of. They would go back to the latest version of minecraft once they leave the server.

Doubt it. Cross-platform doesn't necessarily mean what a lot of people are saying. It could just mean that you will have the ability to keep maps, skins, texture packs, etc from the PC to the Xbox.

After quite a few updates and countless hours of work from Mojang, probably.
some people doesnt have the pc to run minecraft i know a few so they are going to buy it for xbox maybe thats the case
